Hands-on and interactive synthetic biology activities
We've come up with some very low-cost, interactive experiments and activities for biology classes in elementary, middle, and high schools. These activities are meant to mimic the same experiments scientists do with labs, but without the need for fancy equipment or biohazard safety clearance. We have also been corresponding with the Williamsburg James City County science curriculum coordinator to incorporate these same modules into the public school curriculum.
DIY Labs
How can you use gel electrophoresis without the fancy equipment? Is there a way to amplify DNA without expensive thermocyclers?
Plasmid Design
How does DNA code for life? What do scientists do to modify this code?
Ethics Discussion
How do people feel about ethics and controversy regarding new sciences? What is the best way to lead an ethical science discussion with students?
