New Arrivals
Periodic Tales
Unlocking [elements'] astonishing secrets and colorful pasts, Periodic Tales is a passionate journey through mines and artists studios, to factories and cathedrals, into the woods and to the sea to discover the true stories of these fascinating but mysterious building blocks of the universe. (Back 2 Books Grant 2013)
The Radioactive Boy Scout
Growing up in suburban Detroit, David Hahn was fascinated by science. While he was working on his Atomic Energy badge for the Boy Scouts, David’s obsessive attention turned to nuclear energy. Throwing caution to the wind, he plunged into a new project: building a model nuclear reactor in his backyard garden shed. (Back 2 Books Grant 2013)
Songs of Willow Frost
On a movie outing, William Eng, a Chinese-American boy at the repressive Sacred Heart Orphanage in 1930s Seattle, sees the beautiful actress Willow Frost on-screen and is convinced that she is his mother. Later, with close friend Charlotte, he breaks out of the orphanage (in a bookmobile, no less) to hunt for Willow.
Congratulations Teresa!

Try-It! Illinois Returns: FREE Database Trial Period Available Through November 30
Believe or not, now is the time to test out databases with your classes to identify possible purchases for the 2014-2015 school year. Our subscriptions to Pop Culture Universe, Literary Reference Center, Discovering Collection, and Teen Health & Wellness all came from teachers making recommendations to Ann Marie after testing out a new database.
"The State Library is pleased to announce that Try-It! Illinois, our popular, free annual statewide electronic database trial, has returned and is available through November 30, 2013. The trial offers all ILLINET member libraries, their staffs and patrons an opportunity to evaluate a wide variety of electronic resources.
