Mill Creek News 1/30-2/17/23
News from "The Creek"
Mill Creek Mission Statement: Is to ensure individual success and personal development for every student, by cultivating opportunities that equip, empower, and educate all to excel.
Can you believe January is already almost over?!?! It's crazy how fast time goes by. We have lots going on in February, please check the school website and Facebook page to stay in the know. Of course, you can always call the school with questions.
February is Black History Month. We believe it is essential to honor and recognize the accomplishments of all ethnic groups at Mill Creek. We will discuss Black History Month in our Pride Assemblies. Ask your child what we discussed.
Pirate Principle for February is Accountability, the acceptance of responsibility for one's own actions. We discuss with the students weekly the four areas of responsibility we are asking them to practice:
1. Every student will grow academically.
2. Every student will build strength of character.
3. Every student will pursue emotional wellness.
4. Every student will show school pride.
These are the four objectives we ask for the Mill Creek students to be accountable for. STAR and MAP testing are other areas where students need to be accountable for their actions and effort. All we want is for students to try their best.
Attention Incoming 7th Grade Families- 7th Grade Enrollment Night is 2/16 at BMS from 6-8. This is very important for current 6th gade families to attend. You get to tour the Middle School and have a Q&A with the Middle School staff. BMS counselors will be visiting 6th grade homerooms earlier this week.

Student Video Announcements-
Families, we are very excited to bring student video announcements to Mill Creek. The MC news crew has been hard at work the last few weeks writing scripts, producing, recording, showcasing, and editing the announcements for Friday mornings. This is a milestone activity for Mill Creek as we have been wanting to do this for a while. We look forward to watching this grow for the rest of the school year! You can catch the student production on our Facebook page! Thanks for watching!
Adult Volunteers Wanted- Pirate Parents
We are starting a new program called Pirate Parents. This is a spin on the Watch D.O.G.S. program, but we want all adults to have the opportunity to help out at Mill Creek. We are creating more opportunities for students to interact with responsible adults in our community so they can witness Pirate Pride in action and, hopefully, have someone to lean on if they need it.
Pirate Parents will volunteer in our lunchroom and/or playground from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. once a week for at least an hour. They can eat lunch with our students, walk around the lunchroom interacting with students, and/or go outside for recess to play with students. We’d like you to commit to the same time slot each week for consistency. We think this program will benefit both our students and adults!
Adults 21 or older can volunteer for Pirate Parents. Please use this link to apply to be a volunteer in our district. You must fill out this form before you can volunteer. We encourage parents, grandparents, and older siblings to participate.
Once you are cleared to volunteer, we will send you a Sign-Up Genius form to choose your day and time slot. More than one volunteer can sign up for the same slot. Reach out to our office with questions or more info.
Have a great February,
Mr. Erholtz/Mr. Cummins
