Student Achievement
Ms Katie's Preschool class is exploring deciduous trees that lose their leaves. They have gone camping, looked at leaves under a microscope and painted our own forest complete with nocturnal animals. Take a look!!
Ms. McCreesh's Kindergarten students are learning to retell stories/events in order using the words first, next, and then. Completing the beginning phases of a narrative writing by drawing three pictures in order and writing a matching "sentence" under each picture.
Weather Tracking: the helper of the day examines the weather and charts it on our class weather tracker. Students compare AM and PM weather daily in Ms. McCreesh's Kindergarten class!
Centers are in full swing in Ms. McCreesh's Kindergarten class! Students are loving the Superkids center sorting objects that begin and do not begin with letter Gg. They are also having fun making their classmates' names using magnetic letters and alphabet beads in the ABC center.
Ms. Schegman's 1st grade class is working hard on their phonics skills by playing a spelling version of tic-tac-toe!
Mrs. Huba's second grade class has been studying weathering and erosion. Everyone loves Skittles so why not use them for science? This activity is part of a Skittles Weathering and Erosion Lab. Water represents precipitation that weathered the Skittle. The Skittle represents a rock. The color on the Skittle represents minerals, rock fragments and sediment. The container represents the Earth's surface. Students were able to see mechanical weathering when the precipitation from the water dropper hit the Skittle and pieces of the shell were worn away or broken off. Chemical weathering occurred when the Skittle sat in the water that accumulated on the surface of the Earth (container) and the color (minerals, rock fragments, sediment) dissolved off of the bottom of the Skittle. Erosion took place when the colored water flowed away from the Skittle. The water was carrying away the color (minerals, rock fragments, sediment). Of course, everyone enjoyed Skittles in the end!!
Mrs. Russnak's 3rd grade class economy is teaching the children life long lessons of earning money through classroom jobs, buying, saving and showing good character. The students earn a monthly paycheck, a banker cashes their checks, a cashier sells the items they may want to purchase from our store and an economist tracks spending trends, items in demand and low stock. The children get to learn real life lessons about being consumers and savers. They love being apart of our economy and this year long unit is always a huge hit!! Keep up the great work!
Ms. Kissick's students are strengthening their reading skills by reading aloud and discussing what they've read!
Mrs. Waszen's students are sharpening their reading skills by reading a book called "At the Park." Keep up the great work!!
Climate and Culture
Ms. Vezinho’s Friday morning classes were selected to participate in a Chefs in the Classroom Demonstration through the AtlantiCare Healthy Schools Healthy Children program. A local chef stopped by and talked about the importance of healthy eating. She brought ingredients and had the students watch and help make apple cranberry coleslaw. To our surprise, majority ruled, the students LOVED it! Ms. Collins and Mrs. Ebert’s classes were lucky to have such a great experience!
Mrs. Sheerans' 3rd grade class had Lt Anthony Tabasso Jr. from the Margate City Fire Department in our classroom to talk about fire safety and fire prevention!
It's so exciting to earn McCreesh money for good behavior, following rules & routines, and showing our character trait this month (acceptance). Students count their pennies on Friday and exchange their money for prizes!
