Mrs. Barrett & Mrs. Wiley

Dear Parents,

Dear UMAC Families,

An email was sent this week inviting all UMAC families to the volunteer breakfast on

Thursday, April 3 at our Woods Creek LMC. We'd love to eat breakfast with all our UMAC volunteers and thank you for your hard work throughout the school year. Please let us know if you did not receive the invitation and we will send it to you immediately.

This week our new friends finished their first round of PARCC testing with such great pride. Our old friends will be taking the last two tests on Monday and Tuesday after spring break.

Today, your child is bringing home their second trimester report card. Please take some time to review your child's progress and contact us with any questions or concerns.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, relaxing Spring Break!

Mrs. Barrett

UMAC Road Trip

Our student tour guides have worked hard this week researching their "state" and putting their notes into a graphic organizer. After break, students will use this organizer to make a presentation about their state. Presentations will be done on the iPad or on a cardboard tri-fold. If your child would like to use a tri-fold, please make sure it is purchased over break so we can begin creating our template the first week back. Remember to mark your calendars for our Road Trip on Friday, April 17 at 2:00pm!

Shared Reading-Pearl Harbor through a child's perspective

This week in shared reading, students continued learning about the historical event, Pearl Harbor. Our text, Pearl Harbor Child, is written from the perspective of a Kindergarten child that lived on the Pearl City Peninsula during the attack. From this little girl's point-of-view, we learned about December 7, 1941 and the days and weeks that followed. We looked at how this tragic event shaped the lives of many Americans in a few short minutes.

MATH news....

The old friend math test was pushed back until after break. Students needed a little more practice on their multiplication of mixed number fractions. We will plan to test at the end of the week after Spring Break.

New friends are practicing conversions among fractions, decimals, and percents. An introduction of multiplication of decimals using whole numbers reinforced the importance of our mastery of multiplication. Practicing facts continues to be important as we continue learning these new concepts.
