Where Community Grows

Since 1985, we have celebrated Park/Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant & resilient communities through the power of parks & recreation. This year's theme — “Where Community Grows” — celebrates the vital role park & recreation professionals play in bringing people together, providing essential services & fostering the growth of our communities. Our park/recreation professionals make a positive impact on the lives of our community members every single day. Thank you Nate Williams, Chad Clevenger, Janet Moorehead, Alexis Blankenship & all of our maintenance, part-time, & seasonal staff & volunteers!

this week

  • Thanks to the Elms Hotel & Waterfest for hosting two excellent Fireworks Display recently
  • Neighborhoods Division is hosting a conversation with Elms Blvd. residents about resources for sidewalk repair. There has been some sidewalk heaves from tree roots causing a tripping hazard.
  • Exploring options to address loss of revenue to support 911, the 911 tax was imposed in the early 1980s on landlines; & with people abandoning their landlines, revenues to cover the cost of participating in the 911 system are dwindling.
  • We have enjoyed seeing people using the outdoor pool. There is a little work left to do, but does not interfere with using the pool. The concession trailer was received this week & we will be getting it ready to use at the pool. Century Park is ready to re-open.
  • Stop by the Community Center & see their new mural located across from the Wellness Cafe. It is a great addition to the Center.
  • Public Works is repairing the concrete damages on ramp at the Hall of Waters.

choose your attitude!

We are seeing A LOT of people from KC & even other states make a move to our small town lifestyle. We can often take for granted the quieter more laid back lifestyle our Hometown offers. Away from the hustle & bustle but close enough to do all the hustle bustle things when we WANT to. Our Downtown,,,, our schools.... our Community Center... our Westside district... I could go on & on about all the reasons I love where I live. To me its not a surprise to see more city people flock here & want to enjoy the relaxed vibes we share. READ it on Facebook.
