WYWLA WEEKLY UPDATE
FRIDAY, MAY 8, 2020
Greetings!
Thank you to all of the students and parents that showered our teachers with love during Teacher Appreciation Week.
We are nearing the end of our school year. Friday, May 22, 2020 will be here soon. We are thinking about our 8th graders who will be transitioning to high school, and our seniors, the Class of 2020, who will be leaving the nest and moving on to college. Although we will not have our usual end-of-year celebrations, we are working to make sure these students end the year with the recognition they deserve.
Please see details below for our end-of-year closing procedures.
Happy Mother's Day to all of our WYWLA moms! We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Principal CJB

We will have balloons and a designated location for students to stand for a photo opportunity. Parents will remain in the car and take photos from the vehicle. Students will not be allowed to pose for group photos with friends. We will maintain state safety guidelines.
We are also creating an 8th grade slideshow to share with students and families. We will share the slideshow on or before May 21st.
SENIOR UPDATES
We have submitted the following plan to distribute diplomas and yellow roses. This is a drive-through diploma distribution process. Seniors and their families will enter the main campus using our regular Western Blvd carpool route. Cars will line up on the side access road and wait for directions. Each senior will exit the vehicle at a predetermined location and walk to the table to receive the diploma and yellow rose. We will have balloons at a designated location for students to stand for a photo opportunity. Parents will remain in the car and take photos from the vehicle. No more than two vehicles per graduate. Vehicles must be together in the line-up area.
Seniors are encouraged to wear their caps and gowns. Handshakes and hugs will not be permitted. After the senior receives her diploma and yellow rose, she will continue walking to the end of the sidewalk to pose for an individual photo. Parents will remain in cars and take photos from the car. After photos, the senior will get in the car and leave campus. Seniors will not be permitted to mingle, socialize, or pose for group pictures. There will also be a senior tribute posted on the website next week.
The district is currently exploring the option of virtual graduations for all WCPSS schools in June. We will host a Virtual Senior Parent meeting through Google Meet on Thursday, May 14th at 6:00pm to review details and answer questions. Check your emails for the link to the meeting.
FROM THE PTSA
Thanks to All the Terrific Teachers and Staff who have nurtured our students and busted their humps to keep learning alive throughout quarantine. Here’s a short video of grateful students. Thank you Tyla Lynch for putting it all together. Click Here to view the video.
Please Donate Uniforms for Resale
The PTSA will be collecting gently used uniforms for the Annual PTSA Resale (new date to be announced). Uniforms will be collected during the End-Of-Year closing procedure. Ms. Jernigan-Baker has spelled out the schedule above. Bag and label your donation of gently used uniforms and drop them at the traffic circle from 9-11am or 1-3pm, on Fri 5/15, Mon 5/18, or Wed 5/20. Volunteers sought for contactless pickup. Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904094FA5A82C7-collect
Upcoming PTSA Meetings
Via Zoom! Tuesdays 5/19 and 6/16, 5-6pm. Both meetings will be General Meetings where PTSA members can conduct business and vote. Specifically, Board elections and budget approval. Twenty members are required for a quorum. Encourage your student to listen in! The Zoom meeting ID, etc. will be emailed directly from Ms. Jernigan-Baker, and also from me via Memberhub on Tuesday about 3pm. If you don’t receive it, email me directly. Check out meeting minutes, financial reports, agenda, etc. here: https://wywlaptsa.memberhub.com/files
My favorite part of the meeting is The Principals Report. Principal Jernigan-Baker shares News You Can Use and answers your questions. Don’t miss it. She reports first on the agenda. Seriously, tune in! Thank you for your support, excuse the typos, and call or write any time!
