EMPOWERING every student to BELIEVE, then ACHIEVE!
December 21, 2023
Greetings Mt. Olive Families,
In this communication, I am sharing some important information regarding inclement weather and the possibility of it affecting our school days. Whenever weather conditions begin to change and poor weather is forecasted, it is my job to be on alert. I will watch forecast models closely, drive the roads, and communicate with various individuals.
Taking the information that I have at the time into consideration, a decision will be made. If a decision is made to dismiss school early, take an E-learning day, or to cancel school completely, notification will be sent as soon as possible. I understand how changes in schedules can impact the busy lives of our families. That being said, if it is necessary to dismiss school early, take an E-learning day, or to cancel school completely, the following forms of communication will occur:
District Voice and Text Messages will be sent;
Information will be posted to the Mt. Olive School District website and Facebook page;
Local Media outlets will be contacted in the event of early dismissal or school closure.
Mt. Olive CUSD #5 has an E-Learning Plan allowing the school district to utilize 5 E-learning days, as needed each school year. It is the plan of the district to utilize E-Learning days before taking snow days. Please watch for additional information on E-Learning days from your child's teacher and/or principal.
On a related note, on days when temperatures are below freezing, please make sure that your son/daughter is dressed appropriately in winter weather apparel. It is important, especially for your grade school aged children and walkers of all ages, to have fingers covered with gloves and stocking caps. Prolonged exposure to extremely cold temperatures can be dangerous.
It is our sincere hope not to lose instructional days due to inclement weather, but it is essential to be prepared. If you have any questions regarding these procedures described above, don’t hesitate to contact me or your child’s building principals.
Have a safe and wonderful fall and winter season!
