We worked on commas this week and they should all know where and when to use them. Ask them what LIES means. They took a quiz on Friday and those grades will be in next week.
Each class chose a book for me to read aloud to them for about 5-10 minutes each day. They really seem to be enjoying our story time. Most of the time, they don’t want me to stop reading. They sure picked some good books.
The students are making progress on their December Projects and I know many of the groups have either finished or are almost done. Remember that it is not required that they record it, but I know most of them want to present it that way. They are loving working together to create these fun commercials, skits, songs and stories. I have reminded them that their grades are also based on the scripts, where grammar and punctuation will be a big part of their overall grade.
I will be placing another book order next week, if you want to get gifts for anyone or yourself! The class code is listed above. The last day to order will be next Wednesday, December 14th, by 3:00.
Have a wonderful weekend!

This week in sixth grade Math we have been learning about proportions. This includes what makes a proportion and how to solve for a missing part of a proportion.
We also did our first “Math Workshop!” Students are put into groups and move from station to station. The stations usually consist of: meet with the teacher, work on the assignment, technology time, and a review activity. Math workshop allows me to connect with each student at their individual levels. During tech time in “Math Workshop” students were introduced to a new online Math Program called “Prodigy.” There will be a parent letter coming home with more information about Prodigy next week. The students seem to be really enjoying it while practicing math skills at the same time!
Next week we will learn how to use proportions to convert within measurement systems and we will finish next week with the Module 7 Quiz.
Have a great weekend!

We continued working on Colonial America. We looked at the differences between the New England colonies, especially the religious freedom offered in Rhode Island and New Hampshire. We reviewed the first two sections of this chapter and began looking the the middle colonies. Students learned how the Duke of York gained control of a colony from his brother, King Charles of England. The Duke named his colony after himself and that is where the state and city name of New York came from. Students learned that from as early as 1660, New York was a popular place. We ended the week with geography Friday and looked at the physical features of both North and South America. Have a great weekend.
Please contact me via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.

Now that chapter 19 is complete we will actually be moving onto chapter 21 - A Family of Planets. My plan is to complete two of the five sections before christmas break and then remaining 3 when we get back. The chapter will discuss inner and outer planets of our solar system. I anticipate some neat hands on activities and a project throughout the chapter. The chapter 19 test grade will be entered into Skyward by Monday, so keep an eye out for that. Enjoy the weekend!

This week the sixth graders participated in a few days of bowling. At the beginning of the two classes they practiced their technique and then toward the end of class they played a cooperative group game called 10 pins up/10 pins down. On Thursday, they started a 10 frame game and kept track of their score.
Have a fantastic weekend!
