LMS Tiger Talk

#EveryTigerEveryDay
Principal’s Message
Hard to believe it, but we only have 10 days of school left to go! Feels like just yesterday we were welcoming our students to start the school year. Blink and it's over. As parents of middle schoolers, I know you all understand that feeling.
It's May which means it's busy here at school! Next week, we have 8th-grade students embarking on Washington DC to tour and learn all about our nation's capital. This is the first time we've been able to take this trip since 2019, and we are so grateful our students again get to experience this adventure. We wish all our travelers a fun and safe journey!
We are also looking forward to our end-of-year class parties on May 27th. Our 7th-grade students will be having fun at school with a class picnic, yearbook signings, Kona Ice, and fun activities in their classes. 8th-grade students will head down to Grand Sands for a day of fun in the sand for this annual ritual. Big thanks to the MINT PTSA for their generosity and contributions to these events every year. So appreciative of this group of parents, always supporting our students and school!
On a more serious note, we are asking for your help from home in helping our students stay focused as we close out the school year. As students are getting excited about summer, we are noticing a few challenging behavior trends that we wanted to let you know about so you could look out for them at home and discuss them with your child. The first is a social media challenge called "dunking" which includes jumping on the back of someone unexpectedly. The second is an app that students are using that resembles weapon sounds. Both of these behaviors are not allowed at school and are in violation of our Student Code of Conduct. Thank you for your support from the home perspective. We truly appreciate it.
Just a few more of these weekly updates to go. I know you'll miss them so enjoy them while you can :) Have a great weekend, everyone. Thank you for all you do!
Go Tigers!

Second Step Social Emotional Learning
At LMS and across Loveland Schools, we want every child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others.
This week, LMS students continue with social-emotional learning through the Second Step program, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem-solving, and empathy.
Through our Tiger Talk, with the purpose of providing this information with our families, we will be communicating “Family Connections” regularly to communicate the social-emotional learning topic and summary as well as a potential question to ask your child at home to continue the learning and connection.
