Principal Post
February 2017
Principal Points
We are excited to see the growth our students have made based on our mid-year assessments in reading and math. Teachers will be offering parent conferences during the month of February. Staff would love for you to come out and hear all about your child's growth. We are also gearing up to celebrate National Engineer's Week as a part of our STEM initiative. Parents in the engineering field should contact their child's teacher to find out how you can support this initiative in the classroom.
Marvelous Mariners
Every week several students are nominated by staff as Marvelous Mariners. Several mornings a week, the students and the reason why they are Marvelous Mariners are read over the intercom. We then post the nominations for the month on a hallway bulletin board. Please ask your child if they have been Marvelous Mariners.
Class of the Week
Every week our art, music, PE, media, and guidance teachers, who sees every class every week, selects a class of the week in grades K-2 and 3-5.
Student Safety & Respect
The school expectation is that our students are safe, are responsible in their actions and decisions, and are respectful towards others within the school community. Under the "Families" tab on our school website is a bullying report form which may be used to anonymously report any concerns about specific circumstances of bullying within the school.
Early Pickup
In order to maximize instructional time, we will not call students to the office before parents arrive. We will wait until your arrival to call students to the office to be picked up.
Educational Opportunity Excused Absence
Excused absences for educational reasons will be granted only if (1) the primary purpose of the trip is educational and (2) the event does not occur at another time (e.g.: launching of space shuttle, presidential inauguration etc.) Forms for requesting excused absences are available on our website. These requests must be made at least two week in advance.
Volunteering
We encourage all parents that anticipate volunteering in their child’s classroom, chaperoning a field trip, etc. to complete the district’s online volunteer screening application as soon as possible. The process must be completed annually, so please renew your application if you’ve volunteered in previous years. The online form may be found on the district website under the “Parents” tab (look for “Volunteer Application Process”). We encourage everyone to complete this process as soon as possible as turnaround times may vary.
