SCHOOL NEWS

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES:

  • The fencing surrounding the construction site has been permanently fixed to the ground.

  • New custom made tarps will be installed on the fences surrounding the construction site and on the playground.

  • The kindergarten yard will be re-cemented.

  • Smaller cracks in the playground that have recently widened and the crumbling asphalt around the soccer area will be repaired.

  • A new electrical outlet has been installed at the bottom of the new ramp leading to the playground

  • Plumbing to provide running water to the bungalows is expected to begin in the next 3-4 weeks, provided that the weather cooperates.

  • Old benches under the covered areas of the playground will be removed and holes will be patched. Tables/benches will be placed in those areas.

  • New driveway gates were installed to address the gap that existed between the old gates.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

Our next School Site Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 27th at 3:00pm on Zoom. All parents are invited to attend.


ATTENTION 6TH GRADE FAMILIES

Tdap (Whooping Cough) boosters are a requirement to enter 7th grade, including Summer School! If your child has already had this booster, please send an updated immunization record to Ms. Stephanie via email, sallen@gusd.net. If your child has not had this booster yet, please schedule an appointment with their physician as soon as possible.

FREE SPRING ENRICHMENT CLASSES

Each student may sign up for ONE FREE class session in either the winter or the spring. These enrichment classes are sponsored by Monte Vista. Each child may only participate in one class so that every student at Monte Vista has the opportunity to participate in a class. The spring session sign ups are open now and the classes begin the week of March 27, 2023.


If your child took a class in the winter, they may not take a class in the spring.


Please remember to only sign your child up for ONE class. Here is more information on the classes along with the sign up information. Deadline to register is 3/20/23.

REMINDERS

CAL KIDS SAVINGS ACCOUNTS

The State of California has a new program called CalKIDS that automatically creates college savings accounts for eligible low-income public school students enrolled in first through 12th grade. CalKIDS will deposit between $500 to $1500 in each CalKIDS account and eligible students will be able to use this money for qualified expenses when they enroll at an eligible education institution.


To check if you/your child is eligible or to access your/your child’s CalKIDS account, visit www.calkids.org.

CVHS COMEDY SPORTZ

Are you looking for live, funny, family-friendly entertainment in La Crescenta?Then Join Crescenta Valley for their next COMEDYSPORTZ Match in the Underground Theater at Crescenta Valley High School on Thursday, March 23, at 5:00 PM.


What is ComedySportz? - Not Comedy about sports - Comedy PLAYED as a sport! Two teams of high school "act-letes" compete for audience laughs and points while improvising scenes, games, operas, and musicals based on YOUR suggestions. The audience is always a part of the show, voting for the winners and sometimes even winding up on stage.


Clean, family-friendly entertainment for ALL ages! Admission for this match is only $5! Come and support our new players and laugh with them!

PTA FOUNDERS' DAY | THANK YOU!

How sweet it was to honor and recognize our amazing award recipients at our Founders' Day celebration this past Wednesday evening. A special thank you to our awesome Founders’ Day chair, Jenny Heller Giagni, for creating a special and sweet environment for our Monte Vista community. It was our first in-person Founders’ Day since 2020 and we were so blessed to be able to have fellowship in person. Thank you to Ann Edwards for all the support in prep, decorations setup and everything in between!

MOVIE NIGHT - MARCH 24, 2023

We are excited to bring back Movie Night. Get ready for a night of fun where we will gather to watch a family friendly movie in our auditorium. Grab your pjs, pillow and sleeping bag! Popcorn will be supplied by the PTA!


The choice has been made and we will be watching “Minions: The Rise of Gru” - please come out and be a Monte Vista minion with all of us!


*Note - Stem Night has been moved to May 23 and more details will be forthcoming!

MONTY'S NIGHT OUT

Calling all MV Parents, Teachers and Staff! Please join us on Friday, April 28 for our long-awaited, kid-free event - Monty's Night Out! This fun event will be at Golden Road Brewery from 6:30-9:30 pm. This is a great way to mix and mingle with other MV families, teachers and staff outside of our normal school setting. We'll have dinner, dancing, games and prizes. No theme this year - just come with your dancing shoes and MV Spirit!


Tickets are $60 per person and space is limited - RSVP by April 7. Please also consider sponsoring part or all of a ticket for our teachers and staff. Details and RSVP form are attached and also went home in last week's Thursday folders. A Korean version of the flyer is available HERE.
