Coming Soon! Cookies & Conversations @CEMS
Please join us for Cookies & Conversations with your student on February 11, 2016 from 3-6 pm.
This is a great opportunity to review and reflect on your child's growth and learning this year. During the conference period, your child will take an active role by showing you work samples or projects that demonstrate their skills and learning. There are many learning experiences and benefits for your child that accompany this format including the following: active participation in the learning process, increased self-confidence, development of leadership skills, organization, responsibility for their learning, communication and critical thinking skills.
What to expect at Cookies & Conversations (aka Student-Lead conferences):
- At a student-led conference, your child does most of the talking.
- Your child will share a class expectation evaluation.
- Your child will review work samples or projects from each student.
- Your child will review goals they have set for themselves.
- Conferences should last about 15 minutes.
Cookies and punch will be served in the cafeteria. This is not a parent-teacher conference. It is a student-led conference. You may schedule an appointment with your child's teacher/family if needed at a later time.

Money Management Team Builds Budgets
Currently, our Money Management Team has been involved in a “Building a Budget” challenge utilizing a yearly gross income earned from the career of their choice, and deducting the percentage of taxes required before designating recommended percentages of their net income to specific categories such as: savings, food, housing, utilities, clothing, entertainment, transportation and medical expenses. This lesson works directly with the current 6th grade curriculum and real world experiences, emphasizing the practice of converting percentages to decimals, multiply using decimals and deducting/subtracting using decimals. Students are challenged to make changes to their plan as needed, to place needs before wants.
Our class is excited about the upcoming field trip planned for February 18th where our students will tour the NKU Campus and attend a Portfolios Investment Education Workshop which introduces students to the benefits of long-term investing in a fun and memorable way.

Message from the First Aid Room
If your student is texting you to please pick them up from school early due to illness or bring medication, please advise them to visit the first aid room. Communication is important to us for the safety of your student. We will always let them call you from the first aid room. There is a plan in place to inform every teacher your child has that day that your student has safely left the building due to illness. We ask that you bring identification to our front office when signing out an ill student.
