Flowery Flyer
Week of 1/4/16
Weekly Recap
It's time to get back in the swing of things and return to our awesome school! I hope everyone had a peaceful break enjoying the time off. We were lucky enough to experience a white Christmas in Truckee with the Moseley family. The kids enjoyed sledding and I couldn't get enough of staring at the beautiful snow falling among the trees. Truly majestic!
I am eager and excited to roll up my sleeves again and collectively create an amazing learning environment for all Flowery students. I am usually not one for resolutions although I came across a really cool idea on Twitter recently that I will be implementing. It's called a Jar of Awesome. You take an empty mason jar, box or container. Decorate it, and label it with the words Jar of Awesome. Every time something positive, inspiring, or awesome happens to you write it down on a sheet of paper, date it, and place it in the container. Can you imagine reading all of the slips of paper at the end of the year?! So cool! Try it in your classroom and see how it goes. You could make it a gratitude jar, a kindness jar, the possibilities are endless. I love finding small and simple ways to focus on the positive in our lives and the lives of our students.
Special thanks to our kindergarten and 3rd grade teams for hosting a fabulous holiday party at Hanna Boys Center on Friday, 12/18. The food was amazing and I certainly enjoyed kicking off the break with my Flowery peeps!
As we enter the New Year, let's find a way to move out of our comfort zone into our learning zone. -@jhagel

Staff Meeting on Monday, January 11th:
I am thrilled to announce that all elementary teachers in SVUSD have the opportunity to view a new thought-provoking documentary about education called Most Likely to Succeed. A few of us (Justina, Wendy, Dora-Aldina, Brooke) attended the viewing back in October hosted by the Ed. Foundation. I walked away in deep thought about our educational system and how we can push ourselves to create meaningful student-centered learning that prepares future generations for the 21st century. I immediately began thinking about how I could organize a viewing for our staff. We don't have enough time for reflection on our practice and the educational system we participate in on a daily basis. This film allows some time to do just that. The Sebastiani Theatre will graciously open their doors to us on Monday, January 11th for a special viewing. So,instead of holding our staff meeting on site, we'll take a field trip to the Sebastiani Theatre with the rest of of the 4 elementary teaching staffs! The movie starts promply at 3:30 and ends at 5:00. Classified staff members are also invited to attend on a voluntary basis.
