News and Notes

Good Morning,

Happy Monday! I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. Don't forget that this Wednesday, November 11th, is a day off in honor of Veteran's Day.

We've officially completed our first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year! Wow, what a first quarter it has been. We will be sending home report cards home on Monday, November 23rd. Parent Teacher Conferences are Tuesday, November 24th via zoom. Parents will be meeting with Homeroom teachers only. Signups will be sent out via email this week.

This Saturday, our 3rd graders received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Their First Communion was postponed due to COVID. Thank you to Father Emiel, Mrs. Garnsey and Marianna Dalsass, for preparing our students to receive this Sacrament and planning a beautiful ceremony.

Our drop off and pick up are going very well, even during rainy days! Thank you. Please remember to have your child's name visible during pickup. Because this is going so well, our pickup times will change slightly. During the first quarter, we started pickup a little early as we all learned the new procedure. As we start the new quarter, we will begin our new pickup times:

PK/K will be out at 2:20

Grades 1-8 will be out at 2:25.

Pickup will still be available until 2:40, to ease the traffic buildup.

Have a great week,

Ms. Kazan

Remote Learning Update

Although we had a rocky beginning with technology, remote learning is going well. Thank you to the teachers for all your hard work in making sure that remote learning is a success. Thank you parents for your patience and flexibility as we worked through the technological issues.

Going forward, we are asking that ALL remote learners use headphones at all times. We have found that headphones are important for hearing the teacher clearly as well as engagement of the student. Beginning Tuesday, November 10th, it will be a requirement for students to be wearing headphones to attend Zoom. This includes students who will only be remote for the day.

Please remember that only students should be seen in the zoom. No parents, siblings or other adults should be visible.

Community Service Update

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE - I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you and your children for supporting our Thanksgiving Food Drive. Our bags were overflowing and it was a huge success. Your generosity will truly make some local families' Thanksgiving much brighter! Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

December 1 - #GivingTuesday DRESS DOWN Fundraiser $2.00 - proceeds to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry to purchase holiday gift cards
November 23-December 11 - GIVING TREE gifts for needy children (there will be a signup genius to purchase gifts this year, more information to follow)

Some of our 8th graders, under the direction of Mrs. Mueller participated in a service project which benefits Our Lady of Mount Carmel Food Pantry in Elmsford, NY.

They collected 50 full Thanksgiving "Sides" bags for families of 4. The students went shopping for the items, wrote cards and messages to go in the bags, and packed the bags! Together, they moved, packed, and stored over 677 bags of food, which will be distributed later this month to over 200 families.
