SPLOST for Schools

The November 2, 2021, 1% Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST for Schools is an opportunity for Forsyth County voters to continue the current sales tax for another five-year period or when a cap of $300 million is collected in order to:

• Continue to make payments on voter-approved Bonds ($50 million),

• Complete maintenance and life cycle projects at existing schools,

• Build one new elementary school, which will be a replacement and larger school for Midway, our second oldest school in the county,

• Fund safety, STEM, fine arts, CTAE/College and Career Development, special education, technology, transportation, and athletics,

• And to purchase land.

SPLOST is not a property tax. It is charged on goods purchased in Forsyth County regardless of where the purchaser resides.

As you know, Forsyth County Schools’ student enrollment has increased 43% over the past decade. To meet the needs of our students, voters have approved various referendums.

We encourage you to be informed on this issue and to share the information with others. The district has posted a flyer, video, and more information at www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/splost. Advance voting is October 12-29. Times, dates, and polling places are also located on this website.

Learning Environment for 2nd Semester

If you wish to change your child's educational setting for semester 2 (January-May), please complete the survey linked below by November 4th at 4:00 pm.

As you are carefully thinking through this process and making the best decision for your family, please consider the following:

  • If you do not want to change your child's educational setting, you do NOT need to complete the survey.
  • If you wish to make a change, the survey window will be open from Monday, October 11th through Friday, November 5th at 4:00 pm.
  • You should only complete this form once during the window for each child. We encourage you to be certain of your decision prior to submitting the educational setting change request.
  • If you do not complete the survey during this window, your child will remain in their current educational setting through the end of the year.
  • If you make a change for the second semester, it is a commitment through the end of the school year.
  • Students are not guaranteed to have the same teacher for the second semester.

As always, please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Fall Early Release Days: Conferences & Beacon Testing

Fall conferences will be held virtually on early release days, Wednesday, October 20th, and Thursday, October 21st this year. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM. Teachers will be reaching out to parents of students who may be struggling with grades, attendance, or behavior to schedule a time to discuss interventions and supports. If you do not receive a request from one of your child's teachers for a virtual conference, your student is showing appropriate progress in their courses. However, if you still feel the need to have a conference, you may complete this form (also located on our school website) to request one if time permits

We will also utilize the two early release days to administer the Beacon tests in ELA and Math. These are formative assessments to give us some baseline data on our Hendricks students. They will not be graded or recorded in the student's file.

The schedule for these two days can be found here. **Hybrid students are invited to attend the full day on the early release days in order to participate in Beacon testing and attend their scheduled classes.

Covid-19 Information

If your student is exhibiting any signs of COVID-19 (cough, nasal congestion or runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, fatigue, muscle pain or soreness, fever, shortness of breath, or new loss of taste or smell), particularly if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, please allow them to stay home and rest until you determine if a doctor's visit is necessary. We long to keep the school open and this can happen if sick students stay home until they feel well. Our wonderful teachers are working so hard to make sure their assignments are accessible in ItsLearning. Students can log in and take care of these when they're feeling up to it.
