6th Gr. Camp: Opportunities to Help
Fall 2020
Long-Standing Tradition
Every year, our sixth grade teacher embark on a journey out to the School Forest for three days and two nights with their students. This fun-filled opportunity is an experience our students never forget. In fact, for some of our students, it is the first time they've been away from home. Students build team building, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. They start to gain more independence taking on different jobs while out at camp as well. While out at camp, students partake in a variety of opportunities:
- Archery
- BioBlitz - an inventory of species
- Geocaching
- Art at the Beach
- Dissecting owl pellets
- Guest speakers/visitors
- Campfire
- Smores
- Night Hike
- Team Challenges
- Minute to Win it
- And so much more!
Student Leaders: Students Are Coming Back for More
The student leader program is an amazing addition to sixth grade camp. It allows students who have enjoyed camp as a sixth grader to come back and serve as leaders/role models for our younger students in MPSD. Through the program, we have watched our students grow as leaders, develop relationships, and grow in communication skills. It is a joy to watch our high schoolers interact with the sixth graders; through their work, our high schoolers help some of our shyest sixth graders break out of their shells. In turn, our sixth graders enjoy working with the older students and look up to them. By the end of camp, all of the students want to know when they will be able to see one another again.
