Solar Eclipse Opt In
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will take place. During this rare astronomical event, the moon will pass between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the sun. North Texas will be able to observe almost four and a half minutes of total darkness as the eclipse moves across the United States. We are excited about the unique educational opportunity this once-in-a-lifetime event provides for our students.
Students in grades 2-12 will have the opportunity to view the eclipse outside using school provided safety eclipse glasses. To participate, parents/guardians must sign this opt-in form and return it to their child’s campus by Thursday, April 4, 2024. Students in grades PreK-1 will be able to safely view the eclipse event in the building by watching NASA’s live stream of the event.
Safety Measures: Observing a solar eclipse can be an exciting and memorable experience, but it's crucial to prioritize safety. Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause severe eye damage or permanent blindness. To ensure safe viewing of the eclipse, we will provide safe solar viewers that comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Our staff will also be present to supervise and guide the students throughout the event. ONLY STUDENTS WITH THIS SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP RETURNED ON OR BEFORE THURSDAY, APRIL 4 WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT. Students who do not have a permission slip returned by the due date will have an alternative relevant activity.
5th Grade Band Tryouts for next year

Accessing Teacher Emails
Please note that reaching out through Blackboard or Canvas will not always get to our teachers. We have also noticed if you reply to mass emails from teachers they are not receiving it.
Please go to our website https://www.azleisd.net/o/ae under staff to easily get in contact with us. Please call the front office if you are having any issues. Thank you!
Safety and Security for Visitors to Campus
Parents and/or Guardians are welcome to join their child/student for lunch.
All visitors must present a valid Driver’s License or Identification Card which will be scanned into our Raptor Security system for a visitor badge to be issued. As a part of our secure check-in process, please be prepared to show your identification at the camera/bell door entry area.
Dropping off Lunch for your student?
If you are not eating with your child and wish to bring them lunch, please be sure you have communicated with your student that they need to come grab their lunch in the front office the night before/morning of. Please also take a moment to write your student's name on the lunch so that it does not get grabbed by the wrong student. Thank you!
Absence Notes
Please be sure that you are putting your student's first and last name on any absence notes sent in from parents or doctors. This will help Mrs. Parker be sure that we are getting these put into the system correctly. Thank you!
Gifted and Talented Program
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Azle I.S.D. is looking forward to the continuation of the program for gifted and talented students. Students may participate in the gifted and talented program in grades 1st through 12th grade. A student can be referred for assessment by a parent/guardian, teacher or student themselves.
To qualify for testing, your student must meet ALL of the criteria below:
- Your student is currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade in Azle ISD
- Your student is NOT in Second Grade (second grade did a district-wide screener for giftedness already this year)
- Your student is not already in the G/T Program
- AND IT HAS BEEN ONE CALENDAR YEAR SINCE HIS/HER LAST GT TESTING,
Carefully review your child’s academic performance before you have your child spend several days in testing. Azle’s G/T program is highly academic and your child’s report card, benchmark/interim tests, DRA/mClass scores, MAP Growth and/or STAAR tests will be evaluated.
Forms for this request are available in the school office. You may pick up the forms there or contact your campus counselor to have forms sent home with your student. The deadline for completing and returning these forms to your school counselor is April 9, 2024.
Please feel free to contact your school counselor if you have further questions regarding the gifted program.
Want to Volunteer?
As we roll into the 2nd half of the year, Spring will be here before we know it! That means, field trips, field days, award assemblies, dances, class parties, and a whole list of other reasons that will have parents wanting to help out, volunteer, and chaperone!
Raptor Technologies processes our volunteer background checks, along with about 12,000 other people, school districts, and youth sports organizations.
Any parent wanting to chaperone a field trip this Spring will need to complete a volunteer background check for a LEVEL II Chaperone. PLEASE SUBMIT EARLY. If you wait, there is a good chance your background check will not be back in time.
LEVEL II
Level II allows interaction with students without an Azle ISD employee present. Examples: field trip chaperone, school dances, field day, one-on-one tutor/mentor, book fair/spirit store workers, unsupervised helper in the classroom/hall/outside, all other unsupervised activities. Required checks: National Sex Offender Registry and DPS Criminal History
As a reminder, it is best to complete the application on a desktop, laptop, or at least an iPad. The application is not very mobile-friendly; so for any newbies wanting to submit on their phone, they need to turn the phone sideways, so they can see all the available options to choose from (ie: chaperone, level II, etc.).
HERE is the link to the volunteer application.
Thank you to all for helping to keep our students safe.
Phone Policy
Hello Parents. Phones and apple watches are becoming a big distraction in classrooms. Please take a moment to help us remind students that all phones or watches should be off and in their backpacks while at school. If the device is a continued distraction during class, it will be taken up by the teacher and turned into the office for parents to come pick up. Thank you so much for your help with this matter.

Counselor's Corner
As we guide our students through this school year, fostering tolerance is essential. Here are some concise tips for promoting this vital quality at home to help mirror our efforts here at school:
- Lead by Example: Model tolerant behavior in your interactions.
- Encourage Perspective-Taking: Discuss different viewpoints and experiences.
- Foster Open Communication: Create a safe space for questions and discussions.
- Expose Them to Diversity: Engage with diverse literature, media, and experiences.
- Address Biases and Stereotypes: Challenge prejudices and highlight individual strengths.
- Practice Conflict Resolution: Teach effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Celebrate Similarities and Differences: Emphasize the richness of diversity.
Your partnership in this journey is invaluable. At school we are working with students to understand how important it is to be educated in being aware of others perspectives. We want every student to feel welcome, safe, and comfortable at school. If you need any more help, please don't hesitate to reach out.

BRING A WATER BOTTLE TO REFILL PLEASE!!!
Please plan to send a refillable water bottle with a lid to school each day with your child. This will ensure your child has hydration throughout the day.
Please avoid sending caffeinated drinks, energy drinks, high sugar drinks, or drinks with color to school with students in the morning. These contribute to spills and distraction. We prefer water for the choice of the day drink to ensure our health and the care of our building and instructional setting.
Dress Code Reminders
Please be aware that if your child is wearing some thing that is not within dress code or reveals too much, they will be asked to change clothes or call for a change.
Medication or Medical Needs - See the Nurse!!!
All medications must be brought to the school by the parent and administered by the nurse.
If you have medical needs for your child, please see our School Nurse - Misty Stowe - mstowe@azleisd.net or 817-444-1312.
