Veritas Parent Support Group

VPSG Executive: The VPSG Executive includes a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Birke Araujo has put her name forward as Chair and Gillian McCutcheon as Secretary. The VPSG is in need of a Vice-Chair and a Treasure. The Executive positions will be voted on at the October 17 meeting.

Parent Reps and Volunteers: The successful operation of the VPSG is dependent on parent volunteers! A parent representative is needed for each class. Parent reps attend monthly VPSG meetings, arrange volunteers for hot lunch for the month assigned to their class, assist with fundraisers, and assist the classroom teacher where necessary. If you are interested, please contact your classroom teacher or the VPSG.

Fundraising Monies: Last year, the VPSG fundraised $40 000 for Veritas School! This was used to purchase a variety of items, including electric winches for the indoor basketball hoops, indoor volleyball posts, science resources for kindergarten to grade 3, whiteboards for the classrooms, replacement smartboard projectors, ukuleles for the music room, and buying out the student laptop lease. Just over $10 000 was fundraised from the silent auction; this amount was placed in our playground fund. This year's fundraising goal is $30 000!

Hot Lunch: Hot Lunch begins in October with Pizza Hut each Monday and other lunches scheduled for Wednesdays. The operation of Hot Lunch relies on classroom reps and volunteers to assist each Wednesday; if volunteers are not found, that week of Hot Lunch may be cancelled. Hot lunch orders can be placed at

Fundraisers: In addition to hot lunch, the VPSG will run a variety of fundraisers this year, including Art Card by Kids, Purdy's Chocolates, Mom's Pantry, Davidson Apple Orchard, and Treat Thursdays. If you are interested in assisting with any of the fundraisers, please contact Birke Araujo at

Thank you to all parents who have joined Seesaw and are using this as a tool to communicate with your child's teacher! Throughout this school year, all newsletters and announcements will be shared via Seesaw.

Parent To-Do List

  1. Verification of Information: If you have not yet returned your child(ren)'s verification of information page, please do so ASAP. If all the information is correct, we still need the paper signed and returned for our records.
  2. Proof of Address: The Ministry of Education requires that we have proof of address for every student on file. The easiest way to provide proof of address is with your driver's license or BCID. Other options include a rental agreement, utility bill, municipal tax bill, or mortgage statement. Please either email a picture of your proof to or bring it to the school office and we will make a copy.
  3. Criminal Record Check: All parents must have a CRC on file at the school office before volunteering in any school activities. CRC's are valid for five years. If you haven't completed yours, you may do so online at and use the access code DLTLFMPHUE. Please call the office if you have any questions.
  4. Driver's Abstract: All volunteer field trip drivers must have a current driver's abstract and a copy of their driver's license on file before volunteering as a driver on a school field trip. Driver's abstracts must be renewed when your driver's license is renewed. To complete your driver's abstract, please visit Vehicle insurance must also be on file and a new copy provided when your insurance is renewed.

Additional Notes

NET Team: The NET Team will be at Veritas on November 3 and 4 for two great days with our grade 6 - 9 students. We are looking for two families willing to billet our NET Team for three nights! If you can offer accommodation to the team, please contact Mrs. Berg at as soon as possible!

School Council: The second School Council meeting and AGM is on Thursday, October 13 at 7:00pm. The meeting begins with an open invitation to all, before we move to the in-camera portion of the meeting. Minutes from the September School Council meeting can be accessed here:

Before School Supervision: The supervision of students prior to the 8:35 bell is limited to the front of the school and the parking lot area. For the safety of our students, they are not permitted on any playground equipment (front playground or kindergarten area) before school hours.
Absentee Notes: Please contact the school explaining your child's absences with an email to the office ( or a phone call (250-635-3035). Absentee reports are crucial to our school's funding, as numerous unexplained absences throughout the school year can mean less government funding for your child.

Catholic Corner

The Catholic Church dedicates the month of October to the Holy Rosary. The word Rosary means “Crown of Roses” and is a powerful, scripture-based prayer to God through Mary, His mother. Praying the Rosary invites mediation on Jesus’ life, including the joyful, luminous, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries. The repetition of the Rosary is meant to provide an opportunity for calm and reflective prayer. I invite you to say all or a portion of the Rosary each week of October with your families.
