Counselors' Corner
Hello, Dyer Families!
The school counselors have enjoyed getting to know your students! We wanted to be sure you know who we are! Melody Ellis is the counselor for PreK through 2nd grade. Dawn Garner is the counselor for 3rd through 5th. Mrs. Garner will be supervising a Georgia State University Master's Degree Counseling Intern, Shelby Gonzalez. She will conduct lessons, see students individually, and facilitate groups during her time at Dyer.
Classroom Lessons: Whole class lessons with the counselors are held once every 5 weeks during media special. Fifth grade will have a few extra lessons later in the year in order to be sure all requirements are met. Topics for these lessons may include topics such as study skills, conflict resolution, impulse control, safety, empathy, and test-taking skills. Many of these topics are also covered daily during our Social Emotional Learning program taught by teachers in the classroom.
Small Group Counseling: Groups meet weekly for approximately six weeks to solve or cope with concerns that may affect school performance. Group participation is voluntary, and parents will be notified.
Individual Counseling: Individual students meet briefly with a counselor if needed to discuss coping with concerns that affect their daily life. Teachers, administrators, or parents may make referrals. Students may also refer themselves. If needed, the counselors can provide parents with a list of resources for counseling outside of the school. We consult with you and come up with a plan on how we can best support your child. Feel free to reach out to one of us via email or phone.
Programs: The school counselors coordinate programs for the school such as Social Emotional Learning, Positive Behavior Intervention Systems, Student Attendance Review Committee, Great Days of Service, Red Ribbon Week, Peer Helpers, and more!
We are so glad your students are here at Dyer. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!
Sincerely,
Melody Elis & Dawn Garner

A Message from Dyer PTO
Welcome to another wonderful school year here at Dyer, where every parent is automatically a member of our PTO!
We have exciting news...EVENTS are BACK! This fall, we are thrilled to bring back the Fall Festival and Donuts with Dads. This spring, Muffins with Moms and the Daddy-Daughter dance will return. We are thrilled but we will need parent volunteers to help pull it off!
If you are a willing and able to share your talents as a volunteer, please email us at: DyerPTO@gmail.com
Also, if you missed the PTO Information Packet at Curriculum Night, you can download it here.
