We are well underway with our Warrior Time. Remember Warrior Time is a 27 minute intervention period built in to the school day. The purpose is to give students time working with a teacher to have an opportunity to relearn a concept, work on homework, tests, projects, or to get caught up on missed lessons/assignments. We will continue this on Tuesdays and Thursdays until May 16th.
Honor's Night
WMS will be recognizing students who have participated in academic competitions and those who will be receiving the Presidential Education Awards (WMS version of Honor Roll). Letters will be mailed home the first week of May.

8th Grade Career Day - May 10th
8th Grade Parents, this is an opportunity for each student to share time with an adult who works in the student’s field of interest and to learn about duties and responsibilities of the person at work. Students begin the morning in SPARK homeroom and participate in career activities. Throughout the morning, they attend a keynote career presenter and three career sessions designed for their career interests. At 11:15 a.m., students sign out with their SPARK teacher. Students are dismissed to eat lunch and attend their job shadow usually beginning around 1 p.m. (Each job shadow is individually planned so beginning and ending times of job shadows vary). We encourage you to help your student find a suitable person to shadow (e.g. a family friend, relative or acquaintance). Below you will find a timeline for due dates. Please contact Crystal Bolamperti or their SPARK teacher if you have questions.
Fri., May 10, 8:00 – 11:15 a.m. Eighth Grade Career Day
**Please note buses will only bring students to school that day. There is no transportation at 11:15 when students are dismissed. Please arrange for your student to be picked up and taken to their job shadow. There is NO buses home on this day. Students must be picked up no later than 11:45 because we have 6th grade students arriving for the Warrior Walkabout.
Thanks for your help with leading our students in discovering their career opportunities!
There is NO SCHOOL for 7th Graders on Friday May 10th!
Last Day of School Procedures
Our last day of school will be Friday, May 24th. We will dismiss at 1:00pm. A sack lunch will be available for students on that day for a normal lunch price if desired. Normal lunch procedures for Free and Reduced lunches will apply on that day as well.
Purchased yearbooks will be distributed in homeroom time during the last 30 minutes of the day.
Expectations:
Students are NOT allowed to bring any bags to school on the last day of school. If they bring a bag they will need to check it in when they enter the building and it will be stored in the main office and they may pick it up at the end of the day. Students may bring a pen or a pencil, no Sharpies.

The annual conference track meet will be held Friday, May 10th at Gale Wickersham Stadium in Council Bluffs. Field Events will begin at 10:00 and Running Events will begin at 10:45. Admission for the event is $4.00 for adults and $1.00 for students.
Prepare for Next Year
Nebraska law requires students participating in interscholastic athletics to have a current physical on file with the athletic director. For this year’s 7th grade students, this means it will be necessary to have a sports physical before participation during the 2019-2020 school year. A physical exam dated on or after May 1, 2019 is considered current for the entire year. As a convenience, we will offer an efficient and affordable physical at the middle school in August. These physicals will be conducted by Physicians Assistants from UNMC at a cost of $30. Specific times and dates will be provided in the summer update. Feel free to contact me with questions.
Notes From the School Nurse
School Physicals and Immunizations: All incoming 7th graders are required to have a physical on file in the health office before starting school in August. Please turn in your school physical forms and updated immunization documentation. The Tdap (pertussis booster) or valid religious or medical waiver is required before beginning 7th grade. All incoming 8th graders participating in sports will need a sports physical dated after May 1, 2019.
Communicable Illness: A child may return to school when he/she is fever free for 24 hours without medication. As always, please remind your child to wash his/her hands with soap and water and cover coughs!
Injuries: Springtime is traditionally a time when we see students with more musculoskeletal injuries in the health office. If a student is needing exclusion from PE or needs other educational modifications, a note from the student’s physician outlining exclusion or other needs is required to be sent to the health office.
