Orana Catholic Primary School
Term 3, Week 4, 2021.
TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE
Generosity is an attitude of freely sharing our ideas and talents and giving our time generously. We show generosity by being welcoming, inclusive and promoting a sense of belonging.
Prayer for the Assumption of Mary
Almighty God,
You gave a humble Virgin
the privilege of being
mother of your Son,
and crowned her
with the glory of heaven.
May the prayers of the Virgin Mary
bring us to the salvation of Christ
and raise us up to eternal life.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
Dear Parents and Carers
The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated every year on August 15th. This feast commemorates the death of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her assumption, body and soul, into Heaven. It is the most important Marian feast, and it is also a Holy Day of Obligation.
Last weekend, our Year 6 students and their families displayed their commitment to the Sacrament of Confirmation at the parish Masses. Please keep these students in your prayers as they take this step in their faith journey. The parent and child workshops take place this Thursday at the parish.
At Orana we highly value the relationship and communication between home and school. If your child sees that the school respects the home and that the home respects the school, and that we both have high expectations, they are more likely to aim to achieve these expectations. Expectations of positive behaviours extend beyond our students and apply to all members of our community including staff, families and wider community members. Anyone associated with our school is bound by the Code of Conduct that is available on our website.
I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our School Advisory Council and P and F members, who volunteer their time to make Orana a better place for students, staff and community members. Earlier this week, a defib was installed on the fence near the main gate for community and school use. This was sourced through joint venture between St John and Lotterywest Heart Grant. Orana is now one of over 5,500 registered locations, the system has proven to saves lives of cardiac arrest victims in over 400 recorded cases! I urge all community members to download the St John’s First Responder App. Please support the P and F Science Week Busy Bee on Saturday 21st August. See the flyer below.
Orana Catholic Primary School’s success in the 2021 Catholic Performing Arts Festival continued this week. These achievements are a testament to the commitment of and students, parents and Ms Draper. Thank-you students for showcasing your talent. Orana will host Performing Arts Festival sessions in the hall again this Friday.
Thank-you to Mrs Perrigo for coordinating the ICAS Testing at Orana. This has been a smoothly run and efficient service, providing a service to students from our community and beyond.
At the recent Primary Principal Conference, I heard Glenn Mitchell speak on Mental Wellbeing. He is an excellent speaker with candid and inspiring story. Aquinas College has extended an invitation to our community to hear Glenn speak on Monday 16th August. Please refer to the flyer for further information.
God bless and take care,
Dee Johnston
Principal
Punctuality
We encourage families to ensure that all students arrive on time to school. Being punctual ensures that children are calm and relaxed about their day ahead of learning. Year One to Six students should be in class ready to learn at 8.50am when the bell chimes.

Social Justice Group
This term the Social Justice Group are planning to hold a second hand book and toy sale in Week 7. This could be a great opportunity to clean out your toy box and bookshelf! The money raised will be used to purchase gifts to put in the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers which we will be organising in Term 4. This is one way of showing GENEROSITY to those less fortunate than us. If you have any books or toys you would like to donate, please put them in the basket situated outside the Year 4W classroom. Let’s make this Christmas a very special one for those less fortunate than us. Let's get those donations in!

SOCIAL WORKER NEWS
At this age, your child might develop new hobbies and interests through play. For example, your child might start to read more and really enjoy books and magazines about things that interest him – motorbikes, horses, bugs and more. These kinds of activities encourage your child to keep following his own interests and learn for himself.
