History and Government

  • In 1917 Puerto Rico became a territory of the U.S. after the Spanish American war.
  • They do not pay federal income tax, and they do not vote in U.S. elections.
  • They are wanting to become a official U.S. state.

  • Only 3% of the population is engaged in agriculture.
  • 20% of the population is in the indusrial sector.
  • The gonvernment services, and tourism , provide the most jobs.
  • They currently use the U.S. dollaras the currency
