The Great California Shakeout
This Thursday, October, 17th is the Great California Shakeout. Students will be practicing what to do in the event of an Earthquake while at school. Duck and Cover drills will be practiced as well as evacuation routes. There will also be an opportunity for us to test our emergency communication with parents through our Blackboard App in a mobile setting. This Friday, October 18th is our annual Family Picnic Day on the lower fields and lunch tables. Parents can come to eat lunch with your students and student's friends during their lunch period. Students with first lunch eat from 12:32 am to 1:02 pm. Students with second lunch eat from 1:23 pm to 1:53 pm. Please ask your student what lunch they have! Parents may bring a chair and blankets to the field area. Parking will be available in both the front of the school, school parking lot and Tommy Lasorda Field House. Parking is limited carpooling is recommended. All visitors will be asked to sign in by the field house or the front of the school prior to entering the campus. During each lunch, the Book Fair will be going on in the Library and parents and students are able to visit the library. Once lunch has ended we ask that parents promptly exit campus. If you have multiple students with both lunches you may stay to wait between lunches. We can not have students leave class to eat at a different lunch.
School Dances- This coming week is the first school dances of the year. Students must have their school ID to be able to attend the dance. School IDs will not be issued after Wednesday 10/16 if they have been lost. Replacement IDs are $5.00.
- 6th Grade Dance is Thursday, October 17th
- 7/8th Grade Dance is Friday, October 18th
Dances begin at 3:35 pm at the Field House. Students will not be admitted after 3:50 pm into the dance. Students must stay at the dance the entire time. There are concessions at the dance the students can buy so have them bring cash if they would like to buy food. The release time is 5:00 pm. Please be prompt with the pick up of your student at 5:00 pm. All students must be picked up by 5:15 pm.
The book fair runs Monday, October 14th thru Friday, October 18th. It closes immediately after 2nd lunch on Friday. It is open during Break and Lunch Monday through Friday. Please come to see the great selection of books. All proceeds help purchase new books for our school library. Thank you for supporting our library. High School Showcase Nights- 8th Grade students mark your calendars for the PYLUSD High School Showcase Nights. Starting at the end of October and continuing into November you can visit any of our PYLUSD high schools to learn more about their various programs. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Saturday Academy- Saturday Academy will be starting back up October 26th. This opportunity is for students who have received one or more F on their progress report. This year we are expanding Saturday Academy to be mandatory for students who have any truancies or excessive tardies to school (5 or more to one class). During this time we have help from our NJHS students and a credentialed teacher so students can complete work.
