SC School Climate Parent Survey

The Office of Family and Community Engagement, in conjunction with Communications and Student Information, has created several resources to assist parents in developing an account and accessing Parent Portal. The information from this survey will be reflected in our South Carolina School Report Card. We would love for you to share your thoughts through this quick survey.

Spring Bike Safety Rally

As the weather gets warmer, we are more likely to spend time outside riding our bikes in and around the neighborhood. We wanted to offer some bike safety training for students and families.

Please join us on Saturday, March 11 at 9:00 AM for our spring bike safety rally. Sargent Darren Raley with the town of Mt. Pleasant bike safety team, traffic officers, and fire safety personnel will conduct bike demonstrations, answer questions, and talk about important safety rules. There will be prizes for those who attend. We look forward to seeing you.

Traffic & Neighborhood Parking

I bet seeing this title caused a deep sigh. Well, I'm not announcing a traffic pattern change. However, the town of Mt. Pleasant has been getting several complaints from neighbors about our parents' parking and waiting on the side of the road on Kline Street, Short Street, and Speights' Field. The town will be sending traffic officers and issuing parking tickets in the area. Below is one of the violations for which officers will be writing tickets.

72.07 PARKING NEAR INTERSECTIONS

It shall be unlawful for any person to park any bus, truck, transport truck, or any other vehicle (including golf carts) equipped with a body with sides higher than five feet from the ground or street, nearer to any corner or intersection than 25 feet. It shall be unlawful for any person to park any vehicle within 25 feet of a corner or intersection which will obstruct or interfere with the view of the traveling public.

I want to reiterate that we have Park & Ride designated for parents who want to park and meet their children. This is a safe option and keeps cars and golf carts from parking on the sides of the road.

From the Front Office:

Dismissal Notes: Don't forget to write a note on a separate piece of paper when you plan on picking your child up early. We can have your child in the office sooner when we know you are coming. This will help you avoid a long wait, especially when they are coming from lunch or recess. Below is a dismissal note you can fill out and send when planning an early pickup. As a reminder, we do not allow early dismissal in the last 30 minutes of the school day.

Attendance Reminder: Students are considered truant once they have accumulated 5 unexcused absences or 3 consecutive unexcused absences. Parent notes do not automatically excuse absences. Travel and vacations are not excused absences. When your child is out for a week they miss valuable content and are considered Truant. Once students are considered truant, you will be contacted to discuss the attendance issue.

Students who miss 10 days or more excused or unexcused could be in jeopardy of retention if there are academic concerns and attendance is found to be a contributing factor.
