Gerth's Gossip
4-21-17 EARTH DAY EDITION
This Week in Fourth Grade
It was another great week to be a Rocket!
Students have worked very hard on their testing this week.
They have also worked hard on finding information about their famous Hoosier!
Please check folders today for additional Hoosier Project Information. The writing for the Hoosier is being done at school!
Students are doing a "create" or "art" part for their Hoosier due May 1. (mostly done at home.
They are also doing a "sharing" part due May 8. (can be worked on at home & school)
Please remember too that technology devices are always welcomed and put to use to Amplify our learning in Room 17. We used a great new app called Flip Grid this week and will use it again soon. Please help your child install it if they haven't already. Thanks so much! Kahoot It and Nearpod are also some favorites for instruction.
Our Class's ISTEP Testing Schedule For Next Week
Thanks for making sure your kiddo has had a good breakfast each day and for avoiding appointments during these times when possible. Extra snacks are also welcome on testing days if you want to send them with your child! STUDENTS WORKED SO HARD THIS WEEK AND I KNOW THEY WILL NEXT WEEK TOO! WAY TO GO KIDDOS!

Literacy In Action
We are more than half way through Reach Unit 8 answering the big question, “What is worth protecting?” We will review all of the reading strategies taught this year as we wrap up our Reading Curriculum for 4th grade.
Research continues for our Indiana Information Writing projects! The kids are so excited to learn all about a people and events that have had an impact on Indiana history.
We will have a parent open house for our Indiana History projects on the afternoon of Thursday, May 18th. PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS to come visit fourth grade at 1:30. We will send home more information about the event in May.
Math
All of our 4th graders have really benefitted using the xtramath website! They are moving through their facts quickly during math workshop time.
We missed math class a few times this week. However, students did plenty of hard work in Math on their ISTEP Math Sections.
- Next week we will have a slightly shortened Math class on Monday thru Thursday and then miss MathFriday due to the final day of ISTEP testing.
Our Class will finish up with Unit 11 next week!
5th grade math will test on Unit 11 on Monday and start Unit 12 the week of April 24 due to ISTEP testing.
Indiana History
- We spent lots of time researching our Hoosiers this week!
- Next week we will move onto Chapter 4!
- You can look for details TODAY IN YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER on some additional work students will do about their Famous Hoosier!
Birthday Bash-Please see info from the PTO below!
The Smoky Row 25th Birthday Bash is next Friday, April 28th from 5:30-8:30! The PTO would LOVE some volunteers! We are asking each grade level to be responsible for working the corresponding Pod activity. For 4th grade, that means we need volunteers to work the Photo Booth that will be stationed in Ms. Thompson’s room and the Soda Ring Toss in the LGI. Please follow the links below to sign up. If you know any high schoolers who need volunteer hours, this will count!
