Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
September 12, 2019
Dear Parents,
"You have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you." It's so edifying to continually see the generous spirit of our school families. That spirit and generosity came alive again this week when our neighbors in the Bahamas were impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Dorian. One school family in particular was personally impacted by this tragedy and so we come together once again as we so often do. On behalf of our entire school community, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for your response to our Hurricane Relief Aid. The container in the foyer of the school building is overflowing with much needed supplies for those impacted. Donations can continue to be sent into school until tomorrow. If you are making a monetary donation, please make checks payable to CCP of CultureTrust and on the memo line write Hurricane Dorian Relief.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God’s Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
Principal

Volunteers/Clearances
All parents planning on volunteering in the new school year must adhere to the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Safe Environment Program. There are two types of Volunteer programs.
1. You plan on only volunteering on an occasional basis (3 times or less) per school year, such as school trips, parties, etc.
2. You will be volunteering more than three times a year.
If this will be the first year you are volunteering, please request a Safe Environment packet from the School Office by emailing mmatysik@olgc.org. This packet will contain all the forms and instructions needed to become a volunteer.
One of the component of the Safe Environment program (for those volunteering more than three times a year) is to attend a local parish Protecting God's Children Class.
OLGC will be hosting a "Protecting God's Children" Training Class on Monday, September 30th beginning at 6:00 PM in the Trinity Center. Any new volunteers who need to attend this training class can register via the link below. If you cannot make this specific class, there are other upcoming classes in our neighboring parishes.

Change in Safe Arrival/Absentee Call In Procedure - (Grades K - 8)
The Safe Arrival phone extension (Ext. 286) has been disconnected. You are no longer required to "phone in " your lateness/absentee. Please title the email as "Absent and the Student's Name." The teacher will compare these emails to the attendance sheet. You will only receive a safe arrival phone call if the teacher did not receive this email notification.
This new process will also allow you to effectively communicate any homework requests or other pertinent instructions regarding the absence.
**This procedure does not apply to our Pre-K students **
OLGC Lunch Program - September Menu
Also included below is our Informational Lunch Letter from our 2019-2020 Lunch Program Coordinator, Mr. Jamie Kravcak.
OLGC Clothing Drive
This year's OLGC Clothing Drive is part of a service project for the students in grades 6, 7 and 8. This can be counted toward their community service hours. Please click the available slots on our Sign-Up Genius in order to sign-up. Students and parents are needed to help collect clothing after masses and store them in a trailer that will be parked in the church parking lot. Also, volunteers are needed to help load the truck when it comes to pick up the donated items. Anyone can donate items to this clothing drive! Thank you in advance for your support!
This event is being sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society and ALL 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to help. All proceeds will be donated to a charity which is to be determined.
