Keep up on Due Dates!
- Never, ever, ever loan your library books to a friend. If something happens, it is the responsibility of whoever borrowed the item to turn it in or pay for it if it is lost.
- Keep your locker neat and tidy - this will help you locate your library books.
- Don't wait for the due date or your class to return your books. Drop your books off using the hallway book return (right outside the Media Center doors in the main hallway) when you are finished reading them. You can always stop by to return/renew/check out new materials before first period begins, during Core+, or with a pass from a teacher during the school day as well.
- Check your library account regularly! You can do this in the Media Center (at the self-checkout station) or at home. Directions for accessing your account at home are here.
Cite It to Win It
Each week, a new book or web resource will be presented on the FYI board, which is just inside the Media Center's entrance. Student simply write the correct MLA citation for that week's resource on the scratch paper provided and enter the citation in the drawing box. Winners (at least 2 per week) will be chosen from the correct entries. If the "Cite It" entry is for a book, students will win their own copy of that book. If the entry is a website or other type of resource, winners will get to choose their book (fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novel prizes will be available).
Click here to go to the Media Center page for more details (it is on the far right side of the page). All entries are due on Mondays, and winners are announced on Friday morning video announcements.

Book Fair
Need a Book Suggestion?
Book suggestions are my specialty, so please ASK for a recommendation!
There is also a variety of resources in the Media Center to help with student book selections. Monthly displays will promote different themes and genres, the Author of the Month display gives students exposure to different authors, the YHBA program helps promote fantastic choices, and new books are added to the collection on an ongoing basis. In addition, the Fiction section features hanging book reviews, a binder full of recommendations by genre, and bookmarks for students to take and use to find new books to read. Students can also navigate the Interactive Book Finders found here (right column of the page). The book finders are also available on one of the catalog computers in the Media Center.
Students and parents may also follow me on Instagram (@the_loudlibrarian), where I post every book that I read, with hashtags to help readers categorize each book:
- #mglit = middle grades lit (interest level = grades 5-8)
- #yalit = young adult lit (interest level = grades 7+)
- #highschoolreads = young adult lit that is more appropriate for high school readers (interest level = grades 9+)
- #grownupreads = adult books (even I need a break from teen and tween books sometimes!)
I also post on Twitter (@CAMMediaCenter), and I will be using Snapchat to promote books this year! Users can add me (loud_librarian) to see new arrivals, quick book talks, etc.
