Fence Designers in Totara 1

Totara 1 have been set a challenge to design a fence paling to contribute to a fenced area for our soon to be developed outdoor garden space.

The creativity has been amazing and here is a small sample of the ideas and designs students have come up with. Look for the finished results in a few weeks and once secured into their location, you will be able to view them up close to fully appreciate the artistic endeavours.

Top: Rangi Tau's design represents our Maunga and our Awa

Below: Left: Bonnie's reflects our school colours and values

Middle: Audrea's reflects the butterfly garden that will be created

Right: Osborne's is a taniwha to protect the garden.

Cross Country Fun Run & Walk... Not Dawdle 2019

This Friday!

Races will start at approximately 9.45am and will be about 5 minutes apart. The whole event takes about an hour and a half.

Every child dressed in whanau colours will get an extra whanau point on the day. Every whanau supporter dressed in whanau colours will also get a whanau point.

The first 3 places will be recorded and after that everyone will receive a point for competing... so heaps of whanau points up for grabs.

Piripi, our school community policeman will be sizzling sausages for everyone once they have completed their race as well. It is going to be a fun day.

Whanau are more than welcome to run or walk the course with their children. Once children have competed they are welcome to watch the other races with family members however we would like everyone to stay off the playgrounds and basketball courts.

If you intend to take your children home after this event please make sure you inform your child's teacher or send a txt to the school 027 755 0973. (The office will be shut.)

The Tech Hub

Kia ora. I cant believe we are almost halfway through the term, time is flying by.

The soft materials class will be starting to make their eco shopping bags 'Puketapu Bags' next week. Once we have our 1st batch made we will be approaching our local supermarket to see if they would like some in store. If you own a business and would like some, please let me know.

The Micro:Bits classes have almost finished making the bodies for their pets. The next step will be coding them to interact with us.

The hard materials class now has all the pallets we need. One of our classes has been very lucky to have the added help from Ian. Hes a super star with helping our tamariki, we are so lucky that he has given up his time to come help.

If you think you can spare an hour or so to help with any of these classes, please let Mrs Wigley know.

Nga mihi,

Mrs Wigley

Did you know...

If your child misses just five days of school each term... the equivalent of one per fortnight... that is 20 days each year... and adds up to missing one whole year of school before they reach Year 12.

That is a lot of learning to miss.

After we spotted a rat helping itself to one of our bird feeders, we decided to join the Predator Free Taranaki campaign and set a trap.

In one week, we have caught one mouse and two rats!

School Sores...

We have had some cases of School Sores this term.

School sores may start as a blister, and then develop a yellow crust. They are more common on your child's hands, legs or face.

They can be nasty. Occasionally, school sores can lead to boils or cellulitis. Please don't ignore them.

The sores get bigger each day or new sores can happen nearby - they spread easily to other children and adults.

If your child has school sores:

  • Go to the doctor
  • Keep your child at home until the sores have dried up or at least 24 hours after antibiotics are started.
  • Check and clean every day
  • Gently wash the sores with warm water and a soft cloth - wash the sores until the crust comes off and wash away the pus and blood
  • You may get an antiseptic cream from the doctor - use it as directed.
  • Cover sores with a cloth or plaster to help stop the infection from spreading
  • Keep your child's nails short and clean
  • Wash your hands with soap and dry thoroughly before and after touching the skin or sores
  • Make sure your child washes their hands with soap often, and dries them thoroughly, especially if they touch the sores

Sick Kids

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they are 100%.

If your child has an upset tummy please keep them at home for at least 24 hours after their last vomit or sick poo.
