Teacher Weekly
Saint Vincent de Paul Parish School
Greetings staff,
Keeping with the spirit of Advent , prepare your heart with love, generosity, and the patience that in turn, will help to make you the best version of yourself.
As we continue in to the school year and the demands for our positions become greater, I ask that we continue to treat all of our colleagues and learners with kindness and respect. In order to grow as educators it is important that we work as a team and focus on the instructional strategies and procedures of today. Please be mindful of your conversations and discussions with one another. Let your conversations at work foster success for our learners and our staff. Let your conversations be a discussion of positive collaboration and be mindful of your words.
Take time this weekend to reflect on your hard work. Be grateful for the gifts you are given to instruct our learners each day.
Kids at heart in Catholic education,
Maria

THE WEEK'S NOTES
THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION: We will be attending mass on Monday at 9:00 a.m. for this holy day of obligation. My apologies for the late notice, there was miscommunication. This is a parish mass, please be sure to not leave empty rows between classes to allow for parishioners to sit. The mass is not replacing Friday's mass.
WINNER AMERICA RECYCLES DAY- RECYCLE BOWL- ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: SVDP wins the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL category for the 2014 America Recycles Day-Recycle Bowl. We are so excited and proud of the fact that we recycled 21.34 pounds of paper per student, or 2.45 tons of paper! AMAZING!
SECRET SANTA SHOPPE: This week is the week! Learners will be shopping during this week at our Parents' Association Secret Santa Shoppe. Please note the time you signed up for and the date that your class will be attending.
CONFESSIONS: This is the week! Learners will be headed over to the Church for confessions Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. Please instruct the learners on the process of Confession.
PASTOR POP-INS FOR DECEMBER: DECEMBER – MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SPANISH
Father O’Connor is a vital part of our school community. We welcome him into our building at any time to see our learners and our teaching talents. Please see this opportunity as a way to come together as a Parish with the support of our Pastor. If you are on the floor listed above, please email Father Tim @ tjoconnor75@yahoo.com and invite him to your classrooms. Please CC me on the email correspondences. Invitations can include a special task for Father to do or talk about, or even just inviting him over to spend some time with your learners. Father Tim can be invited over on Mondays, Tuesday morning, Thursday afternoon, and Fridays.
WARMING HEARTS DRIVE: During this holiday season we are collecting new and/or gently used blankets, hats, scarves, and gloves for the poor and homeless in our community. Donations can be dropped in marked boxes on the way into Morning Gathering. We appreciate your generosity and donations.
CHRISTMAS DOOR DECORATING CONTEST: ALL teachers are asked to decorate their classrooms doors for Christmas. This includes EVERYONE. Don't ask if it includes you... of course it does!!! :) Learners will be selecting winners during the week of December 15th. This will make for a beautiful and fun atmosphere for our Christmas Program as parents drop off their children to your classrooms before the program begins. Get decorating....
8TH GRADE ADVISORY COMMITTEE: We are so blessed to have such amazing learners at SVDP. Research shows that meaningful learner input helps to build a positive culture of collaboration throughout the building with adults and learners. A selection committee discussed criteria to select these learners based on our core-values. Six learners were selected and will be announced during Morning Gathering on Monday. Their first assignment will involve creating categories for the all-school Christmas Door Decorating Contest.
MADRIGAL DINNER: The second annual St. Vincent Madrigal Feastes will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 12th and 13th in Corrigan Hall. Doors open at 6.30, with the opening fanfare at 7.00. A stellar musical/theatrical production is accompanied by a four-course dinner, including spit-roasted pork and chickens, and festive beverages. Singing, dancing, and revelry in store, with the King (Tim Champion) and Queen (Lorita Gaspar), Merlin (Ron Martin), and Jester Gregory (Greg Downey). Tickets are $40 each. Call the church office to reserve: 330-535-3135 ext. 103. Not to be missed!
CHRISTMAS GET TOGETHER: Our staff Christmas get together is scheduled for December 19th at 3:00 p.m. in the Scullen Room. Please plan to attend.
ADVENT AT MORNING GATHERING: Each morning during this Advent season, (excluding Fridays) we will have a special advent prayer and light our Advent wreath. We will conclude each Morning Gathering with the entire school singing 'O'Come O'Come Emmanuel' . Please bring copies of the hymn that were given to you.
DIOCESAN STANDARDS AND CURRICULUM: ELA/READING, MATH, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND SCIENCE standards and curriculum are on the S drive. Please feel free to copy these to your hard drive, usb, googledrive account, or print them out for your use. Let me know, or ask a colleague, if you have trouble finding the S drive.
SPELLING BEE: Mrs. Fruits is in charge of the spelling bee for our school this year. In your mail boxes is the list of spelling bee words. First through fifth please learn and review these words and host your own spelling bee in your classrooms. Please do this by January 15th. If you could email the name of the winner to Mrs. Fruits, she will make a certificate that will be given during morning gathering that week of January 15th. If you would like more help like tests to help study just let me know. 6th through 8th will also be doing their own spelling bee in their classrooms but the winners from each class (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and maybe 5th) will be participating in a school spelling bee that we will host. 5th and 4th grade winning classroom learners will be invited to participate in the all-school spelling bee.We will have the rest of the school attend and watch the all-school Spelling Bee. One winner from middle school will be chosen to attend the Summit Spelling Bee!
HOUSEKEEPING: Please be sure you are keeping our community areas clean, as you have found them. Our staff workroom should stay organized and clean for the next staff member to use. The laminator should be turned off when not in use.
SAFETY: Please make sure you are locking your doors when you leave your classroom. You were very diligent of this at the very beginning of the year and I need the sense of safety to continue.
STAFF SERVICE OPPORTUNITY! UNITED WAY Our December Staff meeting will open with a message from United Way. ALL employees are asked to attend for a 10 minute presentation. Please mark your calendars.
MASS PARTICIPATION: Please practice the responses for the mass and expect to hear them during mass. I notice some learners (and even some teachers!!!) not participating at all. Please be sure you are expecting their best!
PICTURES: Please be sure to take pictures of your learners doing various tasks. You can use the camera accessory on your Ipad. Send them to me so I can include them in our newsletters. Also keep a file for yourself for your portfolio. The new teacher evaluation system relies heavily on documentation. Be sure to keep a file of your pictures to use as your evidence. I have received numerous pictures from many of you and your classrooms and I love it! Pictures are used on our newsletters, social media, and inform me of the activities going on in your classrooms. Keep them coming!
