October 17th-21st

Subject Area Preview

Reading: We will be wrapping up our first unit of reading on Tuesday: Reading and Interpreting Fiction). We will take an assessment of what we have learned over the course of the last few weeks on Wednesday.

Spelling: Due to fall break, our next spelling test will be Thursday, October 20th.

Writing: Our first round of realistic fiction is coming to a close and students will be revising and editing their writing to make it better for the reader.

Math: We will be multiplying two by two digit numbers this week. Be looking for a parent tip sheet on the process of area model multiplication. I have also included those in this newsletter. We will be assessing over multiplication on Thursday.

Social Studies: We will be wrapping up our government unit this week. We will take a look at our presidential candidates that are in our upcoming election and reviewing the roles and responsibilities of the three branches of government. We will be taking a government assessment on Thursday.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Don't Forget your Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled with me this week! If your time no longer works or you forgot your day and/or time, please contact me or the office to reschedule. I'm booked pretty solid on both days so please do your best to arrive on time for your conference so I don't get too backed up!

Veteran's Day Assembly

It's that time of year again! We are hard at work putting together a great Veteran's Day celebration for you! We invite all Winfield family and community veterans to come and allow us to honor you this Veteran’s Day! Breakfast will be served for Veterans and their students beginning at 8:00 am in the middle school cafeteria. All veterans should meet their students at the middle school at this time. The assembly will begin at 8:45 am in the middle school gym, at which time students will re-join their regular classroom for the day. Veteran's Day forms will be sent home on October 24th & 31. Any student inviting a veteran MUST fill out and return the bottom of this form NO LATER THAN Friday, November 4 so that we may prepare appropriately for the breakfast and assembly. We look forward to honoring our veterans on November 11th!

Each month the office sends home a calendar that includes our SPARCL rotations. Our days are as follows....

MAP Celebration!

On Thursday, October 20th we will be having a MAP assembly to celebrate student achievement on last years MAP test. We will have an assembly at noon. Following the assembly we will have a movie day. Students may wear pajamas or comfy clothes. They may bring pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals. We will be providing popcorn with the movie. Students may bring in a special drink that day and an alternative snack if they do not want to eat popcorn.

WOW Student
