Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
AHOY, PIRATES!
This week has been an exciting week for us! The students are beginning to settle in and instruction is off to a great start. As we go through the year, remember to focus on providing our students an education that aligns to our beliefs. Challenge our students to think critically and to begin to see themselves in the future by setting and achieving goals and developing skill sets that prepare them for college and career. Note: Every student should know his/her year of graduation. The new signs posted on the halls will follow them to graduation.
The test proficiency results were released to the public this week, and we have several pride points, which are noted below. Those seven areas are strengths that we must build from to ensure we continue to deliver a high-quality education to the youth our community. If your grade level or subject area is not among the seven, we have an expectation that our students learn at a level that equips them to show what they know at high levels of success. Reach out to your teammates to find out what worked for them. If you are in a non-tested subject, you share in the responsibility as well. How can you support our students and your peers through your content. If you are a support staff member, how can you share in the responsibility? Mentoring...tutoring, etc. We rise or fall together...no eXcuses!
As such that we are asking you to challenge our children's thinking, we will continue to challenge the thinking of the instructional team. Hold yourself and those around you to Pirate eXpectations; our kids deserve it! We are are responsible, and we are in this together! Stay the course--better yet, chart a new course!
With that, I submit the Captain’s Log. #2020vision #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot cje
Announcements
School Recognition Program
Congratulations! We have received our allocations for the state's school recognition program. This year, all four schools will receive performance pay as a result of the 2017-2018 assessment results. Per MDE and the legislature, there have been changes to how funds will be distributed to eligible teachers and staff this year. Based on the criteria below, there will not be a committee formed at each school as in the past. Upon verification of the eligibility list, Mrs. Bromen, CFO, will submit the list to MDE for consideration. Monies typically arrive around the November/December time frame. Congratulations, your hard work is literally paying off!
Amounts Earned by School - DES: $39,970; PCES: $45,756; PCMS: $36,000; PCHS: $57,627
Eligible Teachers and Staff
- The award shall be paid to the current staff of the eligible school. There is no requirement to pay any portion of the award to staff who have left that school or employment in the district.

Crowd Funding Reminder
Please keep our crowdfunding policy in mind when utilizing tools such as Amazon Wish List, Donors Choose, etc. Items will become district property and a fundraiser form must be completed in advance.
Below is an excerpt from policy DFK with more explanation. Please keep this policy in mind for all crowdfunding efforts.
Crowdfunding Projects:
Inasmuch as desired enhancements to educational programming have always and will always exceed school resources, school employees may at times choose to seek private funds for school projects. One modern manifestation of this is commonly referred to as ‘crowdfunding,’ or the placement of needs on various websites in order to secure donations to meet those needs.
It is the preference of the Pass Christian Public School District Board of Trustee that employees utilize sites funding supplies or equipment rather than monetary donations.
District employees wishing to secure crowdfunding should keep the following requirements in mind:
- Any person or entity acting on behalf of the district and wishing to conduct an online fundraising/donation campaign for the benefit of the district shall begin the process by completing the Fundraiser Form. If the form is approved, the crowdfunding project can be posted online.
- All items received/purchased through crowdfunding projects are the property of the District and all inventory procedures apply. It is the intention of the District to ensure that items purchased through such fundraising endeavors remain with the teacher/employee unless the teacher/employee leaves the district, school, grade level, or the program for which the items were purchased. Should the employee leave the district, school, grade level, or program the building administrator will disperse the equipment or funds based on similar needs reflected in the original project.
- A file is to be submitted to the central office for any crowdfunding request. This file should include: the Fundraising Form and any documentation (receipts, packing slips, e-mails, invoices, etc.) pertinent to the project.
- Employees should be aware that some sites are tax deductible and some are not. It is the employee and donor’s responsibility to determine if the donation is tax deductible. The Pass Christian Public School District Board of Education will not provide a Form 990 for these donations.
It is time for Friday Night Lights and Tailgating!
