"Captivating Every Student, Every Day!"

Big image

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” -Mother Teresa

As educators, we are a single entity within an extremely large, complex system. For this reason, making real, positive change can sometimes appear to be a daunting task. Too often, we fall into the it’s beyond my control trap and feel powerless. However, part of the beauty of the education system is its interconnected-ness. We have the unique ability to impact countless people every day.

Thank you for spreading joy daily! You inspire others to do better and to be better. Your light shines for all to see and everyone says "I want to be a part of that!"

Kudos - singing the praises of our staff :)

The breakfast carts were so cute! This handiwork is thanks to FiFi. Karen, we couldn't do it without you! Thank you for helping to make us look good - very good!

Kudos to the dynamic SOL-prep-the-computers-prior-to-the-test team. Mr. Cole and Mrs. Z, you have done an amazing job ensuring they are ready to go!

Happy Mother’s Day, May 8

We want to wish all our fabulous mom's a tremendous Mother's Day. It's because of you that we get to live out our passion for children!

Corrective Action - Referring Students for a Suspected Disability

Principals have been asked to remind all division employees of the Virginia regulations regarding the obligation to address parent referrals for evaluations.

A recent memo shared that in one instance, the VDOE found VBCPS in non-compliance regarding the obligation to make timely referrals to the special education administrator upon receipt of a request for evaluation from a parent. According to the Regulations Governing Special Education Programs for Student with Disabilities in Virginia, a reevaluation shall be conducted if the child's parent(s) or teacher requests an initial evaluation or reevaluation. All school division employees are obligated to notify the designated special education administrator (Mrs. Z) when an evaluation is requested by a parent. The meeting must be conducted within 10 days of the parent request and the evaluation process completed within 65 days.

In short, if a parent tells you they think their child may have a disability, please tell Mrs. Z immediately. Do not put the child's name in an email. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Z.
