Building Our Future

DJUSD Bond Program Newsletter

APRIL 2021

Welcome to the eighth edition of the DJUSD Bond Program e-newsletter. As Yolo County shifted into the orange tier, there was a flurry of excitement and movement as our District prepared to have students and staff return to campus in the Phase 4 Modified In-person Instructional Model on April 12. With so many changes, it will be important to remember that a majority of our Signature Bond Projects are either currently in construction, or will be entering the construction phase from mid-April through mid-Summer 2021. Most of our Bond Signature projects have an expected construction duration of 12-14 months. Construction activities in the District will be occurring over the next 2-3 years.

Please check with your school site to inquire if any of our Signature Projects may alter your usual pick-up/drop-off routines. You can also see our Phases of Current Bond Projects in the DJUSD chart, below, to reference progress at your school site.

We are excited to share our progress with you and hope you will follow us on this journey of improvement for our students and our community at large.

Countdown to the New Multipurpose Room at Birch Lane Begins

Construction of the Birch Lane Multipurpose Room Project (MPR) is in full swing. The new multipurpose facility includes open space to accommodate assembly seating for the entire school (up to 650 students). Contemporary accommodations will include a stage, music room, warming kitchen, staff, student and all gender restrooms as well as utility infrastructure improvements. Check out our Bond website for more details about this project.

Davis Senior High School STEM Building and Aquatics Center Public Outreach Presentation

A video presentation for the Davis Senior High School (DSHS) STEM Building and Aquatic Center was shared with our community late last month. The public outreach video details current schematic designs for both Bond Projects underway at DSHS. You’ll find details about the new Aquatic Center which includes a 50 meter long by 25 yards wide pool with the inclusion of 17 competition lanes, two diving boards, and space for two regulation water polo courses. The new STEM Building showcases twelve (1,440 sq. ft.) lab classrooms, a large collaboration space (2,800 sq. ft), prep rooms, restrooms and storage.

You can view the DSHS STEM and Aquatic Center virtual outreach presentation on the Bond website.

New Science Lab Classrooms at Emerson and Da Vinci Junior High

The Emerson/Da Vinci Junior High Lab Classroom construction activity has been continuous and dry weather over the past few weeks has allowed the contractor to make significant progress on rerouting existing underground utilities and constructing new utility lines for the project. This Bond Project is still on schedule for a Spring 2021 opening. Stay up to date as we progress by visiting our website.

What’s New at the DJUSD Early Learning Center at Korematsu Campus

Since the groundbreaking on November 5, the new Early Learning Center (ELC) at Korematsu Elementary has advanced swiftly. Modular units have since been placed on their foundations and just like that we have buildings! Seven classrooms and an administration building are in place as construction continues on the expanded parking, a bus loop and an additional drop-off zone. Check out the progress with this time-lapse clip that was created by Otto construction to share with our community.

The placement of the new Early Learning Center at Korematsu impacts a portion of the existing elementary hardcourt playground. To help mitigate this impact, new basketball courts, tetherball courts, and a ball wall have been added to the Korematsu Elementary School playground. Visit our Bond website for more information.

Da Vinci High School Tech Hub

The Design phase for the Da Vinci High School (DVHS) Tech Hub has been finalized and is now out for review with the Division of State Architect (DSA). As a reminder, DSA provides design and construction oversight for California K-12 schools and ensures that we create and develop safe, accessible, and sustainable educational facilities.

Once approved, this Signature Bond Project is expected to break ground this summer, in July. Please see the last Virtual Community Outreach presentation that took place in January 2021 for more details on this project.
