Horizons Mid-year Testing Students K-1
October 1, 2015 through December 1, 2015
Parents/guardians who wish to refer their child for HORIZONS testing must
follow the process described below:
- Please access the parent information within the HORIZONS website at
http://www.cfisd.net/en/parents-students/academics/gifted-talented/ to review
the PowerPoint presentation entitled, Should I Refer My Child for the
HORIZONS Program?
- If testing is appropriate, request a HORIZONS Parent Survey and Permission
to Test form from your elementary counselor or secondary Director of
Instruction. The form may also be accessed on the HORIZONS website. You may also pick up a form from our front desk in the front office or email Mrs. Cortez at adeli.cortez@cfisd.net
- Return the HORIZONS Parent Survey and Permission to Test form to your
elementary Counselor or secondary Director of Instruction no later than
Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Students will not be screened unless the parent
permission form is returned by the December 1 deadline.
- Kindergarten students will be tested on their campuses during the school day in
January 2016, and students in grades 1-11 will be tested on their campuses
during the school day prior to Spring Break. Specific testing dates will be
provided to parents by the campuses.
- Kindergarten students who qualify for HORIZONS will receive services
beginning in March 2016 with parent permission.
- Students in grades 1-11 who qualify for HORIZONS will receive services at the
beginning of the 2016-17 school year with parent permission.
Family Night at the Book Fair
Our PBIS committee will be selling root beer floats. Proceeds will go towards items for the school store. Students purchase these items with the Bearkat Bucks which they earn for doing their Bearkat B.E.S.T.

LSC-CyFair Children’s STEMtastic Stations Set This October
Children can explore Science, Technology, Engineering and MATH (STEM) this October with the “STEMtastic Stations” program at Lone Star College-CyFair.
“In this fun learning event, we will explore science and engineering principles as we utilize simple materials to construct the tallest tower,” said Shamim Arastu. “In addition, we will create and race balloon powered rockets.”
Two sessions will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 in the Kids’ Corner in the library at 9191 Barker Cypress. The 10 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. session is designed for ages 5-6, while the 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. session is designed for ages 7-10.
Parents must accompany children at the sessions, which are limited to 25 participants, and all are asked to arrive an hour in advance to receive a session ticket. Exit prizes will be given to all participants.

LSC-CyFair Math Games Days for Ages 3-10 Return this October
Lone Star College-CyFair’s Mathematics Department’s Math Games Days for children ages 3 to 10 return for two Saturdays this October.
Professor Sharon Stefan and her students have planned some new and innovative activities to help children of different ages have fun while learning some cool math. Parents/adults must be with their children at all times, but no registration is required for this come-and-go event.
“Exit prizes will be given to all participants in this carnival of fractions, geometry, measurement, and all things numerical,” said Stefan. “Invite your family and friends to join us as we multiply the fun when arithmetic is done!”
Math Games Days activities will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 at the children's library at 9191 Barker Cypress.

LSC-CyFair Children’s After-School Math Programs Set this October
CYPRESS, Texas (Sept. 16, 2015) Children can enjoy the magic of numbers and geometry with the “Discover the Power of Numbers” program this October at Lone Star College-CyFair.
Two sessions will be held from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays Oct. 20 and Oct. 27 in the Kids’ Corner in the library at 9191 Barker Cypress.
The math programs, designed for pre-kindergarten through second-grade students, will have different activities and themes.
Parents must be present at the sessions, which are limited to 35 participants, and all are asked to arrive an hour in advance to receive a session ticket.

Birthday Treats Procedure
Parents with students in grades K-5 may purchase treat coupons for birthdays. Birthday treat coupons must be redeemed and consumed in the cafeteria during lunch. Parent or guardian of student must fill out a request form or visit the cafeteria to fill out the form and purchase coupons. Request must be made at least three days in advance. Coupons must be purchased with cash or check. We do not take money from the students’ lunch account to pay for birthday treats. Summer birthdays: The last day the cafeteria will sell birthday coupons will be May 23, 2016. If you have any question, please call Paula Long, Cafeteria Manager @ 281-320-7160.
Veterans Day Program November 11
“A Tribute to Our Heroes” is Black Elementary’s way of saying thank you to our students’ parents and grandparents for serving our country in order to keep our freedoms. We would like to recognize our service men and women. Please complete the attached form if your veteran will be able to attend and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher by Friday, October 23, 2015.
Black Elementary would also like to honor our veterans by displaying their picture on our Veterans’ Wall of Honor. Please send a picture of the veteran you would like to honor with the attached form and return by November 3, 2015.
The Veteran's Day Program is a planned activity for our Black Elementary students, their hero and one guest only. Unfortunately, we will not have ample room to accommodate other visitors.

Spirit Shop:
Calling all Superheroes! Use your powers for good by shopping at Black Elementary School’s Super Spirit Shop. Spirit Shop is held 1-2 times per month on the cafeteria stage during all lunches. Students may bring money from home and are able to come on stage to shop for fun Bearkat-themed and novelty items starting at just $0.25! Our next Spirit Shop Dates are Oct. 23 Nov. 13, and Dec. 11.
Items include spirit t-shirts ($12), water bottles ($4), car magnets ($5), and much more! Spirit Shop is one our most successful fundraisers of the year. All purchases help the Black Elementary PTO provide funds for additional educational programs, supplies and equipment. Thank you for your support!

Thank you to the parents that attended our first 5th Grade Day meeting last week. It was a success as we formed committees and came up with some exciting ideas for our 5th graders! We are still in need of chairpersons and volunteers for the following committees:

Evaluación de mediados de año del programa HORIZONTES para estudiantes de Kínder a 1ro grado
Los padres que deseen recomendar a sus hijos para ser evaluados deben
seguir el procedimiento descrito a continuación:
-Visitar el sitio web de HORIZONTES en:
http://www.cfisd.net/download_file/view/893/350/ y mirar la presentación en formato PowerPoint titulada: ¿Debería recomendar a mi hijo para el programa HORIZONTES?
-Si se considera que la recomendación es apropiada, mande un correo electrónico a la consejera de la escuela, Minet Cortez, a adeli.cortez@cfisd.net y solicite el formulario “Cuestionario para Padres y Permiso para Evaluar de HORIZONTES”
- Entregue el formulario “Cuestionario para Padres y Permiso para Evaluar
de HORIZONTES” a Mrs. Cortez, la consejera de la escuela primaria, a más tardar el jueves ,1ro de diciembre de 2015. No se evaluará a estudiantes que no hayan presentado el formulario y permiso de los padres después del 1ro de diciembre de 2015.
-Los estudiantes de Kindergarten serán evaluados en su escuela durante el horario escolar regular en el mes de enero de 2016 y los estudiantes de 1ro a11mo grado serán evaluados durante el horario escolar regular antes de las vacaciones de primavera. Las escuelas notificarán a los padres las fechas específicas para dichas evaluaciones.
- Los estudiantes de Kindergarten que califiquen para el programa HORIZONTES comenzarán a recibir servicios el 1ro marzo 2016, con el permiso de los padres.
Noche de Familia de la Feria de Libros
El lunes 19 de octubre será la Noche de Familia en la Feria de Libros, de la Escuela Primaria Black de 4:30 a 7:30pm. Los invitamos a que vengan con su familia a escoger libros maravillosos que sus hijos disfrutaran.
Nuestro comité de PBIS estará vendiendo bebidas “rootbeer”. Las ganancias se usaran para comprar articulaos para la tienda de la escuela. Los estudiantes podrán comprar estos artículos con los billetes “Bearkat Bucks” que reciben por su buen comportamiento de “Bearkat Best”.

Procedimiento Para los Cumpleaños
Los padres de estudiantes de K a 5to grado pueden comprar cupones de bocadillos para cumpleaños. (Solamente se permite un cupón para cada estudiante del salón por día). Los cupones deben canjearse y consumirse en la cafetería durante el horario del almuerzo. El padre o tutor legal del estudiante debe llenar el formulario de solicitud o visitar la cafetería para llenar el formulario y comprar los cupones. La solicitud se debe presentar con un mínimo de tres (3) días de anticipación. Solamente puede pagar por los cupones en efectivo o con cheque. No se puede utilizar la cuenta de almuerzo del estudiante para pagar por los cupones de cumpleaños. El último día que la cafetería venderá cupones de cumpleaños es el 26 de mayo de 2016. Si tiene preguntas al respeto, sírvanse llamar al encargado de la cafetería, la Sra. Paula Long al 281-320-7160.
Programa del Día de los Veteranos: 11 de noviembre
El evento ‘Un Tributo a Nuestros Héroes’ es la manera en que la Escuela Primaria Black le da la gracias a los padres y abuelos de sus estudiantes por su servicio a nuestro país para que podamos mantener nuestra libertad. Queremos reconocer a nuestros hombres y mujeres por su servicio.
Sírvase llenar el formulario adjunto si el veterano de su familia puede asistir al evento y recuerde enviar el formulario al maestro de salón de su hijo a más tardar el 23 de octubre de 2015.
También nos gustaría rendirle homenaje a los veteranos exhibiendo su fotografía en nuestra Pared de Honor de nuestros Veteranos. Sírvase enviar una fotografía, con el formulario adjunto del veterano a que desea rendir homenaje. Envíe la forma junto con la fotografía antes del 2 de noviembre de 2015.
El Día de los Veteranos es un programa planificado para los alumnos de la Escuela Primaria Black y sus invitados especiales. Debido al cupo limitado, no se permitirán otros visitantes.

Novedades de la Tienda Alusiva
¡Estamos haciendo un llamado a todos los Súper Héroes! Usen su poder para una buena causa, y hagan compras en la Súper Tienda Alusiva de la Escuela Primaria Black. La tienda alusiva se lleva a cabo 1 a 2 veces por mes. Durante nuestras fechas programadas, usted puede enviar dinero con su hijo a la escuela y podrá subir a la plataforma de la cafetería durante su almuerzo para hacer sus compras de artículos. Las próximas fechas de la Tienda Alusiva serán el viernes 23 de octubre, 13 de noviembre y 11 de diciembre.
Tienda Alusiva vende artículos relacionados con el tema de los Bearkats. Se venden camisetas ($12), botellas de agua reutilizable ($4), imanes para su coche ($5), joyería ($3-$12) y una variedad de artículos ($0.25-$5).

Libro de Recuerdos de 5to Grado
¡Atención padres de los estudiantes de 5to grado!
Les pedimos que empiecen a enviar fotografías de su “Bearkat”. Envié fotografías de bebe, Día de Competencias, Concierto del Coro de 5to Grado, Día de los Veteranos o cualquier otro evento, para el libro de recuerdos de 5to grado.
Si me manda una copia de su fotografía, asegúrese de escribir el nombre de su estudiante y coloque dentro de un sobre dirigido a “memory book”. No se devolverán las fotografías que envié. También puede enviar sus fotos por línea a memorybook@blackpto.net.

Camisetas de 5to grado
¡Atención padres de 5to grado!
Está por finalizarse el diseño de las camisetas de 5to grado. Asegúrese de hacer su pago de $25 para la celebración del Día de 5to Grado. Su cuota cubre las dos fiestas del año escolar, la camiseta de 5top grado y el libro de recuerdos que se le entregara a el estudiante, al fin del año escolar.
El comité de camisetas de 5to grado va a necesitar ayuda para medir los estudiantes para las camisetas. Próximamente les informaremos de las fechas para que se registre como voluntario.

Enfermería:
Necesitamos voluntarios en la enfermería. ¡Esta es una forma de estar cerca de los estudiantes y apoyar a nuestra escuela! Estamos necesitando voluntarios para turnos de 2 horas; de 10 am a 12 pm o de 1:00 pm a 3:00 pm. Día de Competencias en la primavera
Día de Competencia- El jueves 10 de marzo de 2016- 1er grado a las 9:15-11:15 y kínder a las 1:15-3:15.
Los padres están invitados a venir y animar a los estudiantes en las actividades de este evento y competencia atlética. También agradeceremos su apoyo como voluntario. Usted puede registrarse como voluntario del Día de Competencias ingresando a la página web blackpto.net. A mediados de octubre enviaremos más detalles a los padres que se registraron como voluntarios de Día de Competencia. Hospitalidad
Queremos agradecer su generosa donación monetaria y tarjetas de regalo de HEB que ayudaran a contribuir a los eventos de reconocimiento hacia los maestros y miembros de personal. Nos aseguraremos de usar sus contribuciones adecuadamente para nuestros maravillosos miembros de personal.
El próximo evento será una barra de palomitas de maíz con premios en la sala de comedor de los maestros, el 28 de octubre de 11:00 am a 2:00 pm.
El libro con la lista de cosas favoritas de los maestros ya está actualizado para el año escolar 2015-2016. Está disponible en la biblioteca y en línea en blackpto.membershiptoolkit.com.
