Dear Framingham Families,

I hope this message finds you and your family well. Our leadership team has continued to have lengthy and detailed conversations about the reopening of school, taking into consideration an impossible number of factors. To make sense of the many complexities, we are working to ensure that our school community has ample opportunity to get information about these factors and the decision-making process.

In an effort to increase communication as we approach the most complex back-to-school planning we have ever seen, I am inviting you to join me for a series of upcoming virtual events. Titled Back to School Updates: Live with Dr. Tremblay, these hour-long information and Q&A sessions will take place on Wednesdays, beginning this Wednesday, July 22nd. I will host a morning session which takes place at 10:30am and an afternoon session which will begin at 4pm. These sessions will continue into August and beyond, but the times may adjust depending on what works best for our community.

During the July 15th School Committee meeting, the following information was shared in collaboration with the Framingham Board of Health. These items will be discussed as part of the Back to School Update Series:

  • Three return-to-school solutions (Remote, Hybrid, In-Person) are still to be planned for and presented to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education by August 10th.
  • The recommended approach is to stagger the start of school beginning with fully remote for September and October followed by a Hybrid Model in November. A staggered start gives administrators and staff more time to fully plan for a high-quality, forward-moving remote instructional model and in-person learning experience - both of which are required to launch a Hybrid model. Additionally - pursuing remote learning in September and October gives us all a chance to limit exposure to Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).
  • FPS plans to capitalize on all Human Resources. We have access to bus drivers, teachers, support staff, etc. We need to explore how we can make the most of these resources leading up to and through the start of the school year. There are no planned layoffs or furloughs at this time.
