Classroom Spotlight!
Mr. Levesque's Class!
In Readers' Workshop, in collaboration with Mrs. Damiani, Speech-Language Specialist, on Mondays and Tuesdays, we are introducing, reviewing and applying the concept of "character traits". We are reading "Enemy Pie" by Derek Munson and watching short videos with the character of Pigeon by Mo Willems. Students have been analyzing various features of character traits and have been acting out the features of "Think, Say, Feel and Do". Students are also tying in the concept of "what is the evidence?" to support their answers when identifying character traits. Students have been enjoying interactive SMARTBoard activities and Google Slides to brainstorm, share their knowledge and make text-to-self and text-to-world connections!
During math time we are learning that a number's value can change based on the place that it is in (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, etc). We loved playing place value bean bag toss! Each bucket that the bean bags were tossed into represented a different place value. We recorded the bean bag toss results and created the number represented in standard form, word form, and expanded form. We are now working on comparing large numbers by applying our knowledge of place value!
In Science, 4th graders are learning about how different parts work together as a whole by utilizing K'nex sets! 5th graders are learning about how living systems work and how different ecosystems have similar characteristics and are made up of decomposers, producers, and consumers!
