Message from Principal Phelan
Dear Lowell,
We had a fabulous week! Yes, we had MCAS but we did a lot of celebrating and fun activities. You can see pictures below highlighting many of the events.
I was hoping to announce the next assistant principal today. However, we're still working through the final steps of the process and an announcement will be sent once finalized.
Stacy

World Language Department - Fifth Graders Moving On to the Middle School
5th Graders Choosing a Language
Students in 5th grade will have the opportunity to choose what language they would like to study in middle school. Students have three choices: Arabic, Italian, or Spanish. During the upcoming weeks, students will have the opportunity to experience an Arabic and Italian lesson from our Middle School Teachers. We will also send more information home about the reasons why one would choose our different offerings. We will share a survey to choose soon April break.
5th Grade Spanish Assessments
Students in 5th grade classrooms at each elementary school will be taking a speaking and listening assessment in Spanish during the month of May. This assessment will take place during Spanish class, and the assessment should last approximately 30 minutes. The assessment is meant to evaluate students' proficiency in Spanish in that moment. This assessment will provide the World Language Department valuable information about the trajectory of our program since it is now a completed K-5 program. If you would like more information, you can visit: https://www.languagetesting.com/lti-for-organizations/k-12-aappl to learn more about the AAPPL test. Please reach out to World Languages Coordinator Adam Silverberg (adam.silverberg@watertown.k12.ma.us) if you have questions.

The annual K-12 District Art Show has been a tradition in Watertown Public Schools for many years. The show includes work from Watertown students K-12. This is the first year since the pandemic that elementary schools will have in-person representation, so it is very exciting. We are thrilled for the chance to bring our community together in support of your young artists.
Where and When:
The show is up Wednesday, April 5th - Tuesday, May 2nd at the Watertown Mall
Because the Watertown Mall is a public place, you are welcome to see the artwork at any time during mall open hours while the show is up.
