Message from the Principal

Dear Peine Families,

I would like to welcome everyone back from the winter break and hope that all were able to enjoy the time to relax and participate in some memorable activities with family and friends. As we move into the second half of the 2015-2016 school year, we want to welcome any families who are new to Peine and trust that you will find yourselves to be part of an outstanding and supportive learning community.

I would like to thank each Peine Panther for their commitment to being respectful, responsible, and safe every day. Their attendance, grades, and positive behavior are to be celebrated!

I also want to thank the staff with whom I have the honor to work with each day. Those who work with your children are dedicated to building caring relationships with them and implementing strategies that lead to their success.

In closing, we want to thank all of our families for all that you do in supporting our students and teachers as we look forward to an outstanding second semester here at Peine!. Your support and involvement are amazing. Thank you for your support at home and involvement at school.

Spelling Bee

Peine Ridge held the 10th Annual Spelling Bee for 3rd - 5th grade participants on January 11. Our 1st place winner was Anna Budnik from Mrs. Tepen's class. We had a tie for 2nd place between Chloe Bryan, from Mrs. Uy-Moore's class and Elijah Crenshaw, from Mrs. Ryan's class. Anna Budnik will go on th the next level of competition and represent Peine Ridge Elementary at regionals.

100 Days

Peine Ridge students are 100 days smarter today! (January 25, 2016) Kindergarten students have been busy making projects that use 100 items to celebrate the 100 days of school.

Josephine Soberg asked friends and family to donate to a glove drive and collected 100 pairs of gloves. There was an overwhelming response and she collected 150 pairs!

Peine Ridge Science Fair

The science fair is scheduled for February 24 and 25, 2016. The purpose of the Science Fair is to promote individual study, initiative, and achievement. Students are expected to assume as much responsibility for the project as possible.

Projects will be judged in the following categories:

  • Topic (is it creative, interesting, and age appropriate)
  • Appearance of display (attractive and neat)
  • Scientific presentation (problem, hypothesis, procedures, results, and conclusion)
  • Grammar, punctuation, and spelling

To make Science Fair projects easier to complete, we will be selling display boards for $5.50 in room C17. These boards meet Regional Fair requirements and are easy to assemble. The project boards will not be required for the displays or collections that are not judged.

If you would like your child to participate and need an information booklet of rules and instructions, please fill out a registration form and return it to your child's teacher by Friday, February 19, 2016.

Weekly Emails

In an effort to keep parents informed about their child's progress in school, the WSD will begin sending automated weekly emails with personalized attendance (K-12) and grade information (6-12) beginning Friday, January 28th. Studies show that students are more likely to be successful when they have good attendance and support at home, so this initiative is designed to assist parents in that regard. To check on your student's progress anytime, simply log in to the Parent Portal. If you don't have a Parent Portal log in, fill out the Registration form and take the completed form to your child's school in person. You will be asked to show a photo ID when you register. Together, we can help maximize the potential for your child to be successful in school.
Peine Ridge is dedicated to incorporating Service Learning into our students lives. This year, just as last year we are partnering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise money for Pennies for Patients! Your donations will help raise funds for life saving treatments and cures for blood cancer patients. We have created "special" opportunities to help raise money for Pennies for Patients in addition to the collection boxes that your child/children will bring home on February 11th. We are very excited because this year we are able to offer online giving for all of our friends to use. We will be sending a URL out very soon, please look for it and share it with your out-of-town family and friends so that they can support our school too!

Book Fair

Our next Book Fair will be held February 29-March 4. We'll be promoting reading with some great family events as well. Family Reading Night will be March 1. Look for more information to be sent home with your child. We're in need of some awesome volunteers again to make the magic happen, so if you're interested, please call 636-327-5110 ext. 5.

Employee Spotlight

This is Mrs. Kelly Quigley 1st year at Peine Ridge and she teaches 4th grade. Her hobbies include decorating cookies and cupcakes, hunting, fishing, and reading. She has a husband, Josh, and two fur babies, Flan and Sam. A little know fact about Mrs. Quigley is she cheered on Team USA in London in 2007. When she isn't busy with her many hobbies, she likes to cheer for the Cardinals.

Box Tops and Campbell's Soup Labels

Thanks to all who send in labels and for helping to prepare the labels for shipment. The money received from the labels has been used on library activities, book purchases, counselor activities with kids in need, and small equipment. We typically average a little over a $1,000 a year, but would like to hit $2,000 this year. Please help us by saving your labels and dropping them off in the large Campbell Soup bin in the front of the school.

Thank you so much for your support!
