NOONGAR SEASON OF BUNURU (FEB-MAR)
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
After a well deserved extra long weekend, we hope all families and children were looking forward to returning to school this week. The weather was great and the mid-term break provided a great opportunity for families to relax together before tackling the second half of Term 1.
STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING - TUESDAY
While children and parents were enjoying the pupil free day, staff spent the day for professional learning. Over the course of the day, staff participated in three different professional learning sessions:
Session 1
Analysing reading data using Adaptive Progressive Achievement Testing. This session focused on interpreting data gathered at a school level from our PAT Adaptive testing. This suite of testing is mandated in CEWA schools and provides a more accurate picture of student achievement.
Session 2
Mental Health Literacy and the guidelines for supporting children at risk of self-injury. These guidelines outline the processes for identifying and supporting children in our school.
Session 3
Professional Growth Plans for all members of staff which identify goals and the resources and strategies needed to support staff in achieving further professional development and growth.
The day was very engaging and further enhanced the professional expertise that already exists in our teaching community.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT
The recent family fun night coordinated by the P&F was an outstanding success. This year, a number of new activities were trialled which included Scitech Shows, Go Karts, a Silent Disco and the Gym Bus. There was a fantastic turn out and from all reports, parents and children enjoyed the evening. Thank you to our parent volunteers on the sausage sizzle as well as those who helped organise the activities. A big thanks to the P&F Executive of Rose Canzirri, Erin Hawes, Stephenie Kunder and Heidi Durer-Jones for their efforts. Some pics of the night are below!
PARENT INFORMATION VIDEOS FEEDBACK
Thank you to the 34 parents who responded to the brief survey asking for feedback about the recent parent information night videos that were prepared by staff. Of the responses, 82% indicated they were either happy with a video or don't mind how it is presented. Only 12% of respondents said they would like a face to face parent night and 6% indicated that an information booklet alone is sufficient. We understand there is never a perfect solution but we appreciate parents providing feedback. Please see a graph of the results above.
TERM 1 SOCIAL REPORTS
A reminder to parents that in Term 1, staff will provide a social report on your child's progress. This report outlines how your child has transitioned into the expectations and routines of their year level. Academic progress is formally reported on at the conclusion of Semester One. Parents are welcome to organise meetings with teachers should they wish to discuss their child's academic progress. These social reports will be made available in Week 10.
NAPLAN
Next week, our Year 3 and 5 children will be sitting the annual National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy. This is the first year NAPLAN has been moved forward to earlier in the year to allow for results and data to be returned to schools and parents much earlier. The tests are on a single day and provide a snapshot of not only student progress, but areas of teaching focus for our school. We encourage children to treat it like any other test and do their best. Best of luck to the children in Year 3 and 5.
HARMONY DAY 2023
Created in 1999 to celebrate diversity and unity, Harmony Day will be celebrated on Tuesday 21st March. Whilst it is still predominantly an Australian holiday, people celebrate it worldwide by reflecting on the ways they can live in harmony with their neighbours, regardless of their background or circumstances. With over 45 different cultures in our school community, it is just one way we celebrate the differences that make us unique. On Friday 17th March, our Year 4's will perform a Harmony Day themed assembly and then on Tuesday 21st March, children are encouraged to wear their cultural dress or orange!
It's hard to believe that the AFL season is only a week away. For an Eagles supporter like myself, it shapes up as being another long season but I'm looking forward to footy being back on! Have a great fortnight ahead!
Best wishes

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
FIRST RECONCILIATION 2023
Thank you to all the parents who came along to the workshop on Tuesday night to support your child on their journey to receiving the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. SACRAMENTS 2023

If there are any baptised Catholic children in years 5 and 6 who have NOT already received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, can you please contact me directly by email: dee.campbell@cewa.edu.au
PROJECT COMPASSION
As we continue our Lenten preparation, SFoA supports the amazing work of Project Compassion throughout Lent. You will see Project Compassion boxes in all the classrooms for the remainder of term. Please give generously. All money raised goes to Project Compassion to support communities in need here in Australia and throughout the world.
