Letter from Mrs. Smith
Hey Parents and Families-
YEAH! The final weekend of summer is here! I am so excited that Monday we are back in school. Today was a very successful Open House/Curriculum Information minus the broken A/C. The pure joy on faces today made the sweat well worth it!
Monday is our first day back. I will send out a reminder on Sunday around transportation. Please email me if you are unsure of your bus number or bus times. We are wearing masks as mandated by FCS. I have included the Hembree Springs COVID-19 Mitigation Plan for you to see what measures we are taking here at Hembree Springs. On Saturday, I will send out information and video from the Town Hall on Thursday.
Click Here to view the COVID-19 Mitigation Plan. Please know that this document is a living document and edits will be made throughout the year to align with Fulton County Schools policy and procedures.
I wanted to take a moment to remind you of FCS communication from yesterday:
COVID-19 cases continue to rise again in Georgia and Fulton County. Fulton County Schools officials are closely monitoring data and consulting with public health officials as we strive to begin the new school year in-person with face-to-face instruction.
As indicated earlier this week, FCS will make decisions based on local data taken from the Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) Epidemiology Reports and has determined schools and facilities located in municipalities where the rate of infection exceeds 100 per 100,000 residents will require all students, personnel, and visitors to wear masks until such time as the level of spread drops.
The FCBOH August 4, 2021 report indicates the COVID incidence rates for each municipality. Thirteen of the 14 cities in Fulton County exceeded the level public health officials consider “High Community Spread.” Therefore, schools and facilities in these jurisdictions will require masks effective Monday, August 9. A complete list of affected schools can be found here and will be updated weekly.
Additionally, all FCS staff and students are required to report a confirmed positive case of COVID-19, a pending COVID-19 test result (regardless of the reason for testing), and a direct contact with a person who is COVID-19 positive.
Following updated Georgia Department of Public Health (GaDPH) guidelines for quarantine procedures, FCS will now allow all students, regardless of vaccination status, to continue reporting to school after a direct contact if the individual:
(1) is/remains symptom free, and
(2) wears a mask while on school district property for 10 days after exposure.
All students who report a pending test result may continue reporting to school if the individual:
(1) is/remains symptom free, and
(2) wears a mask while on school district property until the test results are received and reported.
Public health officials strongly encourage individuals directly exposed to COVID-19 to get tested after 3-5 days of the exposure.
Thank you for your partnership during this pandemic. Our ability to continue moving forward depends on all of us wearing masks, staying home when sick, and following all the other mitigation strategies recommended to reduce the spread of the virus. We remain committed to providing a safe learning environment while providing our students the very best educational opportunities.
Have a wonderful weekend. Can't wait to see you on Monday!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

First Week of School
No Visitors Permitted in the Building Starting Monday, August 9th.
To limit the number of people in the hallways for the first day and week of school, we will not have any visitors in the building including parents walking students to class. I know that this in exciting day. I am sorry for the short notice. We are trying to align to Fulton County Schools mitigation plan while our numbers are more than 100 positive cases per 100,000. Please reach out to AJ Smith with any questions or concerns.
Attendance CHANGE - PLEASE READ
Hembree Springs Carpool Change
In order to allow for the maximum learning time possible, carpool will have a new time:
7:10 - 7:35 am.
Students who arrive after 7:35 am will have to report to the front desk to sign in.
Why Make This Change?
Students were arriving at 7:40, but not getting to their class until 7:45 and missing the first 5-10 minutes of instruction. Once in the room, students needed to unpack and get ready for the day. this started impacts student learning negatively.
What is the Goal?
Our goal is to ensure that every student is in their seat with their needed materials ready to learn at 7:40 am.
Please reach out to AJ Smith with any questions or concerns around this change.
