Kindergarten
RCS had some dignified guests attend our first ever Kindergarten Royal Ball. It was a magnificent day where kindergarten princes and princesses danced, made family shields, kissed a frog and more. The Kings and Queens (parents and other adult guests of the noble kindergarten crew) sipped from royal cups and ate royal cookies while enjoying the events. Some guests asked the magic mirror the enchanted question "Who's the fairest of them all?" There was even a real knight in attendance.
Attendees had a splendid time. A great big thank you to all those able to make an appearance. Our entire class looked majestic. True royalty.
Fourth Grade
The 4th graders are thrilled to be learning decimals to the hundredths! They learned to model mixed numbers and decimals with units of ones, tenths, and hundredths on a number line and with an area model. They then decided which model they liked best-some are still undecided!
Time to Travel
4th grade students have been working on determining the significance of the Erie Canal on New York State and the country as a whole! Students have taken a step back in time to explore three roles that were quite different during the construction of the Erie Canal: the role of DeWitt Clinton, an immigrant and a merchant. Although these three roles were very different, each role showed huge amounts of perseverance to complete this enormous endeavor. Not only did they persevere, but they changed the transportation industry dramatically. 4th grade scholars learned this week that the time it took to travel by stagecoach from Lockport to Albany before canal construction was a little over two weeks. After the canal was complete, the travel time was cut in half, taking roughly 6 days! Check out the students working on their letters home or to their journal as an immigrant, merchant, or DeWitt Clinton.
