Train the Trainers 2-Day Boot Camp!
Flexible Option to Address Shortage of School Psychologists
Train the Trainers: A model for preparing Educators on Special Assignment for School Psychological Services
Description: This two day Professional Development (PD) session directly aligns to the Ohio Department of Education's Memorandum dated April 26, 2019 (published May 7, 2019), to allow districts flexibility in areas where there are shortages of school psychologists. It teaches teams of two how to train Educators on Special Assignment to assist with delegated school psychologist duties. An educator on special assignment, who has been sufficiently trained and supervised by an ODE licensed School Psychologist or ODE licensed Special Education Administrator, can alleviate the workload of school psychologists with delegated school psychologist duties. Participants will be trained on how to adequately train and prepare a teacher on special assignment to:
- Perform case management duties
- Assess student academic performance/progress, and
- Complete observations.
Participants will receive reference materials and engage in training exercises on the development and completion of required forms for the evaluation process.
* For more information on ODE's Memorandum, please scroll to the bottom of this flyer*
RECOMMENDED PARTICIPANTS:
Recommended participants are teams which include a special education director and a school psychologist licensed by ODE.
* Note: if a school psychologist cannot attend this training as a part of the two member team or the district does not have a licensed school psychologist, then a special education director / supervisor along with someone knowledgeable of norm-referenced assessments, including cognitive ability and educational disabilities could take the training in place of the school psychologist. Acceptance into the training program is conditional based upon team make-up at time of registration. You will be notified prior to the date of the event in case the participants you are sending do not appear to meet these guidelines.
It's our recommendation in order to support best practices for school psychological services that the person supervising the process of the educator on special assignment needs to attend this training.
