Bronco Nation Update
We are Bronco Nation. We will leave a LEGACY.
Thank you!
We have been "training" our students to be prepared for a moment like this for years in schools. We've practice drills. We've warned students to pay attention to what we ask them do to during our drills so that they will be prepared for the real thing if it occurs. I am so proud of our students and teachers for listening and following directives without complaint. They did what we asked. They moved where we told them to move to and waited to hear further directions.
Without that training, I am not sure yesterday's events would have worked out the way they did. Kudos to MISD for preparing us in advance.
I wanted to extend a special thank you to my entire administrative staff for stepping into action as quickly as we did. Our secretary group walked away from their desks and asked what they could to to help. They monitored exterior doors. They made sure the administrators got something to eat and drink while we worked through the logistics of the day. They delivered cookies to teachers to help provide some comfort during an extremely tense situation. They held my admin team together at a time of great stress.
I also wanted to thank my talented and committed teaching staff for doing whatever it took to ease the minds of our students. I heard of teachers showing cartoons, allowing students to take a nap, and having dance parties during 8th period (after the lock out was lifted) just to give the students a divergence from the harsh reality we were facing. I know that I am blessed with a wonderful teaching staff. They showed me and their students their hearts yesterday.
Lastly, I want to thank every parent that trusts us to keep their child safe. Thank you for sending us your "heart" wrapped in human flesh each day to educate and support as they strive towards their dreams.
I do know that this type of tragedy may happen again. What I want you to know is that we will respond again just like we did yesterday. We will always "overreact" to preserve the life of every student and staff member in this building.
It is always a great day to be a Legacy Bronco!
With Sincerity and Love,
Dr. Butler
