Principal's Message
Time is flying by as we are already entering the holiday season. It was great seeing so many of you at our Halloween parade. It always amazes me when I see so many of you at the school, supporting your child(ren), watching the parade and then many who stay to provide help with class parties. I also know many, who weren’t able to stay, provided treats and helped from home. So, we thank all of you for the support you give our children!
Although every day is a time to be grateful for all we have, November is the month of Thanksgiving. I just want to express how much I appreciate Jill Goodman, our PTA President and all of our board members for the time and talents they share with our school! THANK YOU!
I would also like to share my gratitude for our students. The children we have at McMillan are amazing! As I was looking at books to share for our Principal’s book of the month, I couldn’t help but be grateful as I reflected on the kind children we have at our school. I also realize this comes from you as parents working together with our teachers to create thoughtful attitudes and kind children.
Love you all,
Mrs. Sanford
Reflections--Look Within
Reflections entries are due, Friday NOVEMBER 8th. Students can drop entries off at the office with Mrs. Bigelow or to their teacher. Please be sure to help your student fill out an entry form (found here https://www.utahpta.org/general-arts-category-rules-pages-forms ) Prizes will be given to all student that participate. Entries will be selected to move on and compete with other schools and the district and state.
Patriotic Assembly
Our Veteran's Day Assembly is right around the corner! It will be Friday, November 8 at 8:45 and any family members who have served or are active duty in the military are invited. Please let them know! Students are invited to compose an essay entitled "America's Heroes.'' Some of the essays will be read at our assembly, should not be more than 1 page in length, and turned in to the office by Monday, November 4. We will be creating a slideshow to honor Veterans and service members. Please send your pictures and information to sarahbsly@gmail.com by Tuesday, November 5th. The students and faculty really love seeing their family and friends honored in this slideshow. We look forward to honoring our service members in this unforgettable assembly!
If there are any cub scouts at McMillan, please wear your shirts for the patriotic assembly to help with the flag ceremony. Shirts need to be tucked in with their den neckerchief and slide.
Clothing/Food Drive
It’s time for our McMillan annual food drive with the Utah food bank. This is a great way to teach children about service in their community. Our theme this year is “Sock It To Hunger”! We will begin to collect food Monday, November 18th through Friday the 22nd.
Please bring non-perishable goods, canned or packaged food and drop them in the barrels near the front office. If we fill all five barrels the students will get to have a crazy sock day on Tuesday, November 26! Please help to make a difference in our community. Thank you for your support and let’s “SOCK IT TO HUNGER”!
Save up your used and outgrown clothing (all sizes), shoes(all sizes), blankets, sheets, curtains, towels, and soft toys for the Clothing/Food Drive Nov 18-22. Items can be in any condition. We have a unique opportunity to benefit both our school and local Salt Lake Valley charities. The more items we bring in, the more funds we earn for our school. Our goal is to bring in 5,000 lbs of donated items; that’s about one full kitchen garbage bag, per family. If you donate more than one bag, even better! Thanks for taking advantage of this unique opportunity to benefit both McMillan and local charities.

Move It Program
The Move It Program works with TOSH in promoting and encouraging a healthier lifestyle. We have a nutrition based activity that is led by a dietitian and her students. This program is scheduled every first Tuesday of the month during lunch recess teaches kids a hands-on approach in making healthier food choices and participate in fun activities. A physical therapist from TOSH comes to help along with PTA parents ever 3rd Thursday. The students are taught different games to play in an organized manner as well as provide outdoor physical activities regardless of weather. Volunteers are welcome for both activities, however, parents are needed particularly for the the nutrition portion of the program on Tuesdays. Classic Fun Center also falls under this program. All McMillan friends and family are welcome and have free admission for those two nights of the year. Upcoming Move It Days: 12-1 Outside of the Library: Nov 5, Jan 7, Feb 4, Mar 3, April 7, May 5
