WM 2nd Grade Curriculum Update
December 2019
Reading and Writing
Reading
In workshop we are studying fictional book characters. We make predictions about the story, problems, and characters. We think about how and why the characters act a certain way. We confirm and revise our predictions as we read. We leave tracks of our thinking on post-it notes. We write about our character’s feelings, traits, and actions. We discuss our thinking with our reading partners. We also notice how or why or if characters change throughout a story.
Writing
Writing realistic fictional stories has been our focus during Workshop time. Students are writing about realistic characters who face a believable problem. Students are developing a realistic problem to their characters problem. Students complete a story map to help plan out a realistic story.
