Science at Northlake Christian Lower School
Our Philosophy of Science encompasses the belief that God is the Creator of all that exists, and science is the study of His creation. Our purpose as Christian educators is to facilitate the exploration and discovery of the Divine Order and structure of the universe. Our science curriculum is planned to equip the lower school student to function in harmony with God’s order through observation and experimentation, challenging him to higher order thinking. By acknowledging the wisdom of God, the student will recognize the responsibility to be a steward of His perfect design.
Science a Closer Look by McGraw-Hill is utilized in grades 3 and 4 with national science lab modules within our Lower School Science Lab located on campus. Reading Wonders offers a holistic approach to teaching social sciences through informational texts and non-fiction in grades K-2.
Here are some pictures of our 3rd grade students taking advantage of our Science Lab as they explored the importance of leaves.

Q1 Midterm Reports - September 15
Q1 midterms reports will be emailed to parents on Tuesday, September 15. In the event that you are viewing grades on Renweb, please note the following for all ancillary classes that issue E,S,N grades instead of numeric or A,B,C,D, F grades:
E,S,N Grading Scale
9---E - Excellent
7---S+
5---S - Satisfactory
3---S-

Therefore, when Renweb shows 9/100, your child actually has an E.

Early Dismissal - September 16
On Wednesday, September 16, we will have an early dismissal day to provide for our teachers and administration the time they need for professional development and our ongoing preparations for our AdvancED (formerly SACS) accreditation visit to be held February 29- March 2.
Lower School - 11:30 A.M.
Middle and Upper - 11:45 A.M.
After Care
After Care will be provided until 5:30 P.M. with Mrs. Latour.
Lunch
Students attending After Care will need to bring lunch from home as the cafeteria will not be open on this day.
Carpool
PLEASE be sure that whomever is picking up your child in carpool has a car tag in the window or on the visor. We absolutely love seeing our grandparents assisting working parents; however, we can expedite carline with this simple step.
Back to School Bash - Movie Night - September 19
Each month, the Lower School students, parents, and teachers will be invited to participate in commUNITY activities. For the month of September, we have two events: September 19 – Back to School Bash Movie Night and September 23 Varsity Volleyball Game.
September 19—Back to School Movie Night: On Saturday, September 19 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the slim gym, the K-4th grade students and families are invited to enjoy our very first commUNITY event of the year which will be a Back to School Movie Night featuring Mary Poppins. Admission is FREE. Bring your own chair or blanket for the floor. Concessions will be available for sale.
NOTE: Lower School students MUST be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21 at these commUNITY events. Parents may not drop their children off. This is intended to be a commUNITY event for all students, parents, and teachers to attend.
Scholastic Book Orders
I suppose after completing this doctorate, because I simply cannot take on any more research at this time (eyes crossing), I will make my millions researching how and then begin a new Christian book club for children which will include all of the literary classics in conjunction with wholesome, children’s books. Until then, we will move in this direction so as not to deprive our children of a love for learning and reading.
Please read the letter that is attached to this email.
