HOLY FAMILY NEWS
What does the PA do for our school?
The Holy Family Parent Association is comprised of parents from St. Jude’s and LaSalle. The PA Board consists of representatives from St. Jude’s and LaSalle. The main purposes of the Parent Association are to Recognize and Support all Staff, sponsor social events, and fundraise.
Some of the events the PA take part in are: Coffee & Friends, Walkathon, Family FUNdraisers, Sock Hop, Chocolate Sales, Plant Sale, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son event, Spring Carnival, Grandparent’s Day, Lancerfest, Soup Supper, Staff Appreciations, etc..
Some things the PA has been able to help pay for in the past couple years are Foss Kits, math programs, new desks and chairs for some classrooms, Ipads, new drinking fountains, Staff Development, new ice machine, computers for staff, playground upkeep, etc…
Why should you be a representative on the Board?
Show your children firsthand the benefits of volunteering. The opportunity to become personally involved with your child's education. To be better acquainted with the staff, teachers, and other parents, and a chance to make new friends.
Please consider joining the Holy Family Parent Association Executive Board!

How YOU can boost enrollment
What's more? Now you can share videos that are 30-seconds or less to share why you love Holy Family! We call these our Holy Family Half-a-Minute. Use your phone, computer, or tablet. (horizontally) to record a short video of you or your child sharing what you love about Holy Family. (These need not be professional nor high-end. In fact, their natural organic appearance will provide an authenticity to them!). Then email or share the video with Mr. Zeckser at zzeckser@holyfamilycr.org. We will collect these and share them to Facebook and to our website for guests to see. Your voice and experience is a great tool to promote the school.
Thank you!
Yearbooks and Class Composites
We do have about 20 yearbooks available for purchase for $20, check payable to HFSS. These will only be available on a first come-first served basis.
Please mail your check to 3700 1st Ave NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405, attn: yearbooks

Middle School News
Congratulations to our Quota International 8th grade Middle School Honorees
LaSalle Teachers nominated and recognized these two students for displaying overall positive development as a member of our school community as well as having marked personal growth. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Honors Luncheon recognizing area honorees was cancelled. In lieu of the luncheon each student received an awards medal, a gift certificate, an awards letter including their nomination information, and a special recognition letter from State Senator Liz Mathis who was to be the featured speaker at the luncheon.
Congratulations to Hannah and Dylan! You should both be proud to receive this special honor!

Band Information for 4th grade!
Good evening fourth grade families! I’m Mr. Ehler, and I’m reaching out about band for next year! We would love to have as many fourth graders joining band as possible next year – there’s a place in band for all of you! I’ve heard the best things about this class.
Please take a bit of time and watch this short video I’ve put together with your family.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQJhaqshYMw
I reference two other videos in that clip:
Please find some time this weekend to watch them as a family!
I’ll be reaching out again on Monday and Wednesday of next week, but the major piece will be a Zoom Meeting next Wednesday at 7 PM. I know there’s been reason for a lot of uncertainty lately, but I want to try and provide not just some reassurance about what band itself will be looking like, but why your kids are so lucky to get to start band as we get back to school next year.

Again, please catch those videos, and I’ll be reaching out again soon! See you all Wednesday!
Best,

Kernels Summer Reading Program
The Kernels Summer Reading Program is designed to help encourage students to stay engaged in their education outside the classroom. Reading program scorecards are where students can find directions on how to participate and track their minutes. Just like baseball, students must make their way around the bases to hit a home run in the Kernels Summer Reading Program. To keep everybody motivated to read, we have prizes at each base (benchmark) along the way:
1st Base Prize 250 minutes read – A free ticket to a Kernels Game and a $5 opening deposit from Hills Bank
2nd Base Prize 500 minutes read – A free Kid’s Buffet at Pizza Ranch and one free pass for unlimited access to the bounce castles at a Kernels game.
3rd Base Prize 750 minutes read – A Kernels Pennant and Kernels themed coloring book.
Home Run Prize 1,000 minutes read – A Mr. Shucks jersey pillow and an invitation to Reader Recognition Day on Sunday, August 30th to participate in a Home Run Reader on-field parade.
When the time comes to return to the ballpark, students can come and get all the prizes they have earned at our Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop next to the ticket office. Happy Reading and Go Kernels!
