Chinese New Year 新年
What is the Lunar Festival?
The Lunar Festival is the Asian celebration of the New Year!! In Asian society, they have different month time periods so that's why it's different from American New Year. The Chinese New Year falls between January 21 to February 20. It's generally celebrated in China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and the South Eastern Region of Asia. This time of year celebrates wealth, prosperity, good health and fortune.
My Experience
February 21, 2015, my cousin, little brother, and I all went to Discovery Green to attend the Texas Lunar Festival. At the festival, we seen fan dances, ate chicken cabobs and mushroom (shii'take), and walked around quite a bit. There were people in many booths selling jewelry, "han bao" red envelopes, and creating crafts. We watched women dance, and folklore dual dance, ate a "Tang Yuan" (peanut butter dumpling). There was a man who walked around and my family said "han bao na lai" and he gave us a red envelope with a 1 USD.
