LIFT Weekly Update

All about the Student Ministries at First Baptist Covington

Hey, everybody!

Circumstances can often break our hearts. Let us turn to the Lord, devote ourselves to Him, knowing that He is good!

CHANGE OF PLAN FOR LIFT TOMORROW NIGHT! There is a Prayer Vigil being held at Covington First United Methodist Church at 7pm in light of the tragedy at Newton County Theme School yesterday. In order to allow families to participate in that vigil if they wish, ALL YOUTH, CHILDRENS, AND ADULT PROGRAMMING WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 6-6:45PM.

Youth Choir is back! They meet Sundays at 5pm. The first portion of practice will be basic voice lessons (which most people pay for), followed by working on actual songs. Come check it out!

Sunday Night there is NO LIFELINE due to Church Conference and the Super Bowl.

WEDNESDAY IS THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR THE Middle School Mystery Retreat! It's coming up Feb. 19-21, and it is going to be an amazing time! Unfortunately, I can't really tell you about it, because it's a secret...thus, the "mystery." Either way, register your student HERE, and get ready for a really awesome time!

The Wednesday Night Supper Schedule that you signed up for is below. Let me know if you'd like to fill in one of the gaps!

IMPORTANT DATES

April 2-7 - Honduras Mission Trip to Orphanage Emmanuel.

Summary of Last Week's Message From LIFT!

We can be pretty smart and clever. So clever, in fact, that as Galatians 6:3 says, "for if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself." We deceive ourselves when we forget who we are in the light of God's glory. But, the hard truth that we must come to grips with is that, as Paul points out in Galatians 6:7, God is not mocked by us. In other words, he isn't fooled by who we think we are or who we claim to be. God judges us rightly, based not only on our actions, but also our hearts. Understanding this truth leads us to make wiser investments, seeking genuine faith that leads us to action.

Follow-Up Questions for Parents

· When we think we are fooling God or everyone else, who are we really fooling?

· What is the relationship between the content of your heart and your actions?

· Why is it right for God to judge us based on both of those aspects of ourselves?

· What does it mean to reap what you sow?

· How can you sow in good things that will reap eternal life?
